If so, then that would be contractor followed by Building Control, if my UK construction memory serves me correctly. Could even be architect for specifying that material. Or cladding contractor if there was a specialist cladding contractor on board.

She increased pay for police and armed forces AS WELL as putting them on a more lucrative pension scheme. She signalled that law and order is more important than people going onto tertiary education and into teaching.

Omnis Exteriors asked to supply cladding £2 cheaper a square metre than fire-resistant type, investigation finds

Material used in the cladding that covered the Grenfell Tower was the cheaper, more flammable version of the two available options, an investigation of the supply chain has confirmed.

Omnis Exteriors manufactured the aluminium composite material (ACM) used in the cladding, a company director, John Cowley, confirmed to the Guardian.
He also said Omnis had been asked to supply Reynobond PE cladding, which is £2 cheaper per square metre than the alternative Reynobond FR, which stands for “fire resistant” to the companies that worked on refurbishing Grenfell Tower.

"So there are two separate questions. One, are our regulations correct, do they permit the right kind of materials and ban the wrong kind of materials? The second question is were they correctly complied with?

And why allow the flammable version to be sold in the first place? I mean, seriously, is there ever a case where flammable wall cladding is a good idea?

Never, but its not flammable - its fire resistance doesn't meet the requirement of certain countries.

I notice Speed Panel (similar product) has its fire resistance certifications plastered all over its website now.

I'm sure I read somewhere , the PE stuff is suitable for buildings under 12m and gas stations. I may have got that wrong.

Yeah, but why is it 'suitable' when it's obviously going to catch fire if the flame gets to the core, and there is an alternative that is more resistant on the market for little extra?

It's just asking for trouble to have it available - particularly with corner cutting.

What I'm saying is are there any situations where you couldn't use the FR variant, because if not ...

I know nothing about cladding and building fire standards so this is only speculation

Was this stuff legal (even though not fire proof) - if so then it was legally okay to use (if not ethical - very different things)

Was this stuff illegal - then I would imagine that's a crime and manslaughter charges are a genuine prospect for those responsible

It's speculation at the moment about the legality of this cladding - there is so much contradictory information out there

Plenty of people using this tragedy for their own agendas though, which is sad

Couldn't agree more, especially the last sentence. Anyone who uses something like this, especially in such early days, should hang their head.
