Default Tsunami - Telstra sucks

Wally Donaldson (CEO of Telstra country) on the news tonight saying that the reason so many people could not get through on the 'phone this morning was because the system isn't designed to take that many calls and he suggests that we consider whether it is really necessary to make a call before clogging up the system.

EH? Surely ringing your loved ones to see where they are is necessary? Remind me again what we pay extortionate phone bills for?:curse:

The OH could explain better than I - so what I have learnt over the years relating to mobile networks (this is not specific to Telstra) is that the network is not built for the capacity for everyone in Australia to make a phone call at the same time. To build & maintain such a network would be extortionate, and then you would have an extortionate bill.

Just like they will not build 70 lane freeway just in case.....

btw did you realise that is very highly likely the cost of the phone you use is subsidised?
