Do you think that the oil price increases have affected Aus more, with all the transportation that's involved or are we just being ripped off?

How on earth has Japan kept price rises so low?

The same story was on the news yesterday. In that report Coles and Woolworth got the blame for our higher than average price risers. In other words: Yes, we are being ripped off.

As for Japan: They have had negative inflation for many years - keeps prices down ...

Again back to wages....
Wages fall record 7.1% in June in Japan
Maybe Japanese wages haven't grown as much as the 57% growth in Australia in that time frame ?

I have so far seen two years, 2007 and 2009, that show wage decline in Japan.

Have supermarket employees' wages gone up 57% in that time? If so, the price increases don't seem quite so bad but somehow I am doubting it!

Earnings ; Queensland ; Females ; Total earnings ;
May 1999 $461.10 pw
May 2009 $711.30 pw
Increase 54.26%

Earnings ; Queensland ; Females ; Full Time ; Adult ; Total earnings ;
May 1999 $ 634.30 pw
May 2009 $1009.10 pw
Increase 59.09%

So part time would have risen by about 49% at a rough guess from that.

However, that covers all workers not just supermarket.

I have listed females as a larger % of supermarket workers, that I see, appear to be female.
