Do you think that the oil price increases have affected Aus more, with all the transportation that's involved or are we just being ripped off?:frown:

How on earth has Japan kept price rises so low?:blink:

The same story was on the news yesterday. In that report Coles and Woolworth got the blame for our higher than average price risers. In other words: Yes, we are being ripped off.

As for Japan: They have had negative inflation for many years - keeps prices down ...

Again back to wages....

Wages fall record 7.1% in June in Japan
Maybe Japanese wages haven't grown as much as the 57% growth in Australia in that time frame ?

I have so far seen two years, 2007 and 2009, that show wage decline in Japan.

Have supermarket employees' wages gone up 57% in that time? If so, the price increases don't seem quite so bad but somehow I am doubting it!

Earnings ; Queensland ; Females ; Total earnings ;
May 1999 $461.10 pw
May 2009 $711.30 pw
Increase 54.26%

Earnings ; Queensland ; Females ; Full Time ; Adult ; Total earnings ;
May 1999 $ 634.30 pw
May 2009 $1009.10 pw
Increase 59.09%

So part time would have risen by about 49% at a rough guess from that.

However, that covers all workers not just supermarket.

I have listed females as a larger % of supermarket workers, that I see, appear to be female.

29 April 1999, the Australian Industrial Relations Commission
The Federal minimum wage was increased by $12.00 to $385.40 per week.

2008
$543.78 Federal minimum wage

This equals a 41.1% increase in the federal Minimum wage in 9 years.

Whilst Australia's groceries have jumped 41.3 per cent
