Unhappy Tick bite advice please!

Wifey just got bitten by a small tick. We think it's a paralysis tick. She got it off, but it has made a 3cm x 2cm inflamed area and it's burning she says.

Any advice please, like shall we go the doc now or wait till the morning?

We have the tick in a body bag.

I'm no doctor. But if I were in your shoes, I'd take a "wait and see" approach.

if it were me I wouldn't be too worried by the symptoms you describe.

However if the area was to get bigger/spread to other parts of the body, or perhaps your mrs started to feel ill, or experience any other symptoms out of the norm... head to hospital.

If in doubt - go to hospital. The worst that can happen is that you get sent home!

Again - don't rely too much on the above. There are good reasons why I don't work in a hospital....

ps - only yesterday my neighbour was telling me that tick season has started early this year and residents of the sunshine coast in particular are getting bitten left, right and centre.

We just phoned for medical advice and they said if after 24 hours it looks infected then go to doc immediately.

It will be painful for about 12 hours still. She washed the bite area immediately which was also advised.

So I think she'll be ok.

excellent.

It will be painful for about 12 hours. But you won't hear the end of it for another 12months.

I've had a few bites while out kayaking and been left with a nice puncture hole and even a head once when I must have scratchedthe body off unsuspectingly for a second I thought I lived in Gympie with a second head but it came out with out major problems.

In UK Lyme Disease was a problem especially in big deer areas but don't think it's a major problem here like other posters mention it's the Paralysis ticks that is the bigger problem saying that dogs have had them and been fine.

Any temp or continued inflammation see Doc for some antibiotics and I'd get her to take some antihistamine if you've got some to reduce the reaction.

Thanks. She's fine at the moment and the burning has stopped and she is normal/

Will see how things are in the morning.
