I'm over seeing you desperate  However, as it's a while since I did mine, I'll let you off.
I'm busy. With work and other stuff but I've got an update to post. I tend to write it out first and upload. This is a good one. You'll like it. |
Re: Thyroid Thread - Part Deux
Oh here you all are, it has took me a whole day to find you all.
Couldn't get through on the link that moneypen20 put up for us as i seem to be having problems with computer at the mo. Also i can not give Karma to any one :(as it says "Sorry you cannot give reputation to this post" and it is the same for every one i try. Any body else having problems with this. Just had a thought, could some one send me some Karma to see if i can receive it. Thank you. |
Re: Thyroid Thread - Part Deux
I've given you some karma ausi dream. Hope it worked.
Can't believe I spent hours on Monday reading the whole thyroid thread and then you closed it ......lol I'm glad I read it though. It was very informative. |
Re: Thyroid Thread - Part Deux
Well it's referenced at the beginning of this thread and also in Tiddly's signature so we shouldn't lose it. Cheers MP. :)
OK this one needs some gory details, TMI - shall I start? Currently half way through a 24 stint of weeing in a bottle. Getting my bloods done tomorrow; hope the results are better than my recent mammogram and bone density scan. |

Um ... Seasider, good luck with those tests... At least the 4 hr weeing thing is more accurate. Let us know how it goes. Do I take it your bone density etc wasn't good? :( |

Re: Thyroid Thread - Part Deux
Seasider thinks this thread should have some gory details, well here are mine.
Spent half a day at the hospital with needles in and blood tests being taken to find out why unwell. Which ended up being told to go straight to my doctors to be referred for further blood tests, which meant going back to the hospital on the Tuesday morning as i had to farst for them. So i am now waiting to see what the results will be. |

Hi Holly, welcome to our little thyroid world :)
ausi, I hope you get some answers soon and can concentrate on getting well again. I had my bloods done yesterday and learned the hard way - if you're fasting, eat your dinner later than 6pm and then get out of the door well before 11am, especially in 30+ degrees. Man, was so dizzy by the time I'd finished. Stupid girl. |

But then i spent another two hours at the hospital with them trying to get any blood out as i suffer from Raynaud's and my body was cold and they found it hard to get the blood out. |
Re: Thyroid Thread - Part Deux
When I was at my most unwell they struggled to get mine, too. It puzzled me as I'd always been a good bleeder but it happened too often and in too many clinics to be the nurses' incompetence. I often ended up with it coming out of my hand which can be painful.
This lasted a couple of years but seems to be fine again now. |

Re: Thyroid Thread - Part Deux
How are you all doing folks?
It's cold in the mts ...cold and wet and I'm glad of it because after weeks of hot, dry weather, and 38 degrees of heat plus wind, it's a miracle we haven't had a bush fire. |

Also, does anyone know if the pig will sort out hair loss? Nic reckons the dodgy thyroid is to blame for it. She doesn't lose heaps, but more falls out than used to. Any help appreciated ... :) |

Yep, well-known symptom, along with painfully dry skin.

Re: Thyroid Thread - Part Deux
Oh and can anyone help with these questions from Nic.
Can you take the pig at night? The only instructions she has are that it has to be taken in the morn. Just wondering if this is adhered to by all ?!? Reason being she takes other meds in the morn and wants to do the thyroid one like the other (Thyroxine) Which leads on to the other query. With the Thyroxine she couldn't eat either side of taking it. 1 hour this way, 2 the other, or to that effect, but there's been no mention of any kind of regime for the ole pig one ... Can it be taken on it's own, last thing at night with a glass of water I guess is my overall question? Cheers |
Re: Thyroid Thread - Part Deux
Same deal as the Thyroxine, Paul. Her doctor should have told her that (the one used by most of the Sydney ladies dishes out a handout).
I take mine just before bed too. Not sure if I'm supposed to but I have so much else to take I have to fit it in somehow. |

Are you able to scan that leaflet for me Seasider.:) And yes Paul the hairloss does stop, although if im deficient in anything i start losing hair again. Hope she does well on it. Donna |
Re: Thyroid Thread - Part Deux
Well Dr B told me to take mine around 8:30 every morning and an hour before food and never take them with fruit juice or coffee only water. Thats what is on the bottle of tablets as well. Hope that helps a bit.
Just to add I take 480mg of the natural thryroid (the pig one) a day now. Kerry |
Re: Thyroid Thread - Part Deux
Ok I just dug out the paper and it does say before breakfast so I must have read the bit about the time period after food elsewhere. I take mine at night so that I don't take it right after food, as I take some other scary stuff on a morning that I can't take near food, and I have to fit a lot of calcium into my schedule (osteoporosis).
I read that you should take it either half an hour before food or at least two hours after, but Dr B just says: It has to be taken 25 minutes before breakfast with a glass of water. Avoid taking iron supplements and calcium as well as orange juice with the capsule, as they impair absorption. (I can scan the handout later from my other comp if anybody wants it, but it includes info about experimenting with and increasing the dosage, and I'd hate it to contradict anything your own doctor has told you. Let me know if you'd still like it.) |
Re: Thyroid Thread - Part Deux
Wow, Kerry - 480mg? I take 60mg; I went shaky on 90.

Re: Thyroid Thread - Part Deux
Questions from Nic.
Can you take the pig at night? The only instructions she has are that it has to be taken in the morn. Just wondering if this is adhered to by all ?!? Reason being she takes other meds in the morn and wants to do the thyroid one like the other (Thyroxine) T3, the piggy stuff, is short acting. Unlike the T4 (thyroxine) she's been taking, it doesn't need to convert in the cells to T3. It already IS T3 (though there's a small amount of T4 in the piggy stuff too, but mainly it's T3). Therefore, if you take it at night, it's straight into the cells and it will probably keep you pretty restless all night. It'll boost your thyroid and keep you awake. It should really only be taken in the morning before food, only with water. It should be straight into cells within about 20 mins. You need the energy from it during the day. Some people split their dose and take half in the morning and half at about 3pm. Or they take two full doses per day, morning and afternoon. Ideally, you don't want your body kicking up in the middle of the night because you need your sleep. You're taking T3 because of the 'direct to cell' effect. It means there's little or no conversion for your body. It's like an intravenous drip of good stuff straight to your cells. With the Thyroxine she couldn't eat either side of taking it. 1 hour this way, 2 the other, or to that effect, but there's been no mention of any kind of regime for the ole pig one ... No food half an hour to an hour after taking it. It depends on your digestion really but def over half an hour. Keep it by the bed, take it on waking, get in the shower, get dressed - by the time you've done all that, you can eat. Easy. Can it be taken on it's own, last thing at night with a glass of water I guess is my overall question? See my initial answer. :) |

Re: Thyroid Thread - Part Deux
Hmm, must check with Dr B when I go for my results. Doesn't keep me awake but I get the theory.
I don't think I'm anywhere near as bad as a lot of you ladies though. TBH I'd rather not take any, but I can't seem to get the herbal stuff I got in Singapore. I've stopped the cortisol. Something was giving me terrible headaches and I'm trying to work out what. My skin is pretty bad too - never had spots as a teenager, got them in my forties instead. |

I'll let her know, thank you ... :) Instructions with keeping T4 in fridge extremely dodgy anyway... most doctors find the instructions confusing!!! Something along the lines of 'Store in fridge before opening, then when opened, keep out of fridge'. Makes no sense whatsoever. |
