Hi can anyone let me know if you can arrange for a Tax File Number before entering Australia. Also has anyone set a bank account online, if yes who with and how? We will be arriving Jan/Feb 07 and are trying to get things arranged. Thanks

Hi Paul. don't think you can get a tax file without being in oz.
Try search for TFN under the australian goverment site in the state you are moving to.
We set up a bank account with ANZ before we left the UK. You can open the account and put money into the account BUT you have to activate the account before you can take any money out, IE you need to go to an ANZ bank with passport etc.

To get a TFN, you have to be able to give an Australian address.

Cant help with the bank accounts, though alot of people seem to have opened an account with someone like the Commonwealth which you can do from the UK in person. Then look at different banks once here.

We opened a bank and savings account with Westpac online. We could transfer money in but couldn't transfer between accounts or take money out until we activated the account which we did when we got here. Complete doddle.

You can't get a TFN until you get here or validate as you need to give visa details and date of entry.
