Thanks to everyone whao has replied with useful bits of info. I will bring lamps and spare bulbs to fit them from here. Have already got a lot of multi extension/surge protect sockets so hopefully wont have to change too many plugs.
Cheers, Caroline:thumbup:

No, not necessarily true. An STB may be necessary but may also work fine as is.

Depending on your TV you may find hidden in a menu is a signal type setting which can be changed to allow sound and picture. Its the sort of menu item that wont be listed in the manual though!

All your electronic equipment will work in Oz as far as voltage is concerned. (TVs don't work unless Australia is included as a choice in the TV's country set-up menu. But that's nothing to do with voltage. It's to do with the frequency used for sound transmission. Oz uses a different one from the UK.)

Again not strictly true, it depends on your make and model of TV. I have such a TV which has only EU choices of country but by changing other menu settings can get analogue signals working fine.

Guys

TVs as a generalisation are impossible to answer. Some work 100% on both analogue and digital, some work on analogue only. There is nearly always a workaround though as others have suggested which work perfectly well.

well after reading this post and panicking about the 3 LG lcd tv,s we have just bought to take with us. Lol. I phoned Lg and was told they will work fine. Just got to set it up like I did here, but instead of using Uk settings I use Europe. What a bloody relief!
He said that most of the new tv's would work with no problems.

According to Wikipedia the mains supply voltage in the UK is 230V and in Australia it is ... 230V. Looks the same to me.

Re: TAKING T.V TO AUS!!!!!!!!

TVs - may work straight away. If not an Ozzie set top box costing $29.99 from Aldi can be placed between the aerial and the TV, then they will all work.

Plugs - cut your UK plugs off and leave them in the UK. Buy Bunnings plugs BEFORE your container arrives. Change plugs yourself (OK in VIC, you're not allowed to in some states such as QLD and have to get an electrician).

Lightbulbs - Australia is about to become the first country in the world to make the sale of the globe light bulbs illegal, and they will shortly be followed by the less efficient of the halogen ones being banned too. CFL (compact fluorescent light) and LED (light emitting diode) technology will replace them gradually, it's not quite up there yet but will be soon.

And Pioneer told me the same thing and the digital (Freeview) tuner doesn't work even trying EU settings. But don't panic - there are solutions.
