What also annoys me is when someone wants to get into your lane and instead of getting in your lane behind you where there is plenty of space and no other cars they want to squeeze infront of you between you and another car! I get so annoyed with it and haven't got used to it.
I've mounted twin 50mm cannon on my bonnet. Nobody pushes in in front of me anymore.

I have been in Cairns for 10 months and in that time have only seen 2 "driving school" cars.
If the majority of learner drivers are being taught off parents, friends etc, then this would surely mean bad driving habits are passed down from one generation to the next and will continue doing so.
This is certainly part of it. Road positioning seems non-existent - someone turning right rarely positions their car so that others can pass to their left. And reading the road ahead also appears non-existent: we have to turn right into our road off the main Bowral/Moss Vale road (two lanes each way) and I can almost guarantee that, despite indicating and getting well over to the right 100m before the turn, the following car / ute will only realise they are about to rear-end me when they have only a second to spare - then they swerve across into the inside lane (indicating as they do: everyone indicates religiously as if that absolves them of all responsibility!)

I don't get this: my insurance - including CTP - is a little more than it was in the UK.

God isnt weird, my oh and i were having the same chat last night as we had to real boy racers behind us, and at the traffic lights they were really trying to egg my husband on to race with them, the thing is they could see that we had our two kids in the car. PRATS AND DOUBLE PRATS

I know! Why don't they move over or pull forward more. And agree, they don't tend to look ahead. So many times I have sat at the lights to turn right indicating and the cars behind will want to turn left (there are 3 lanes at the lights) and get annoyed that they can't because I am turning right and they didn't look.

I agree with you, my insurance is on a par with what i was paying in the UK, i should have explained myself more clearly.
I meant that insurance for young kids seems to be heaps cheaper here than insurance for say a 17 year old in the UK. When i was 17/18 car insurance on large engined/4x4's/sporty cars was extremely expensive and out of most people of that age groups reach.
Sorry a bit off topic i know but i just wanted to clarify what i meant.

A friend of a friend bought his P-plater son a brand new Prado through his company's novated lease scheme.

He's decided to opt for CTP insurance only as he figures that if his son doesn't have a crash for 3 years then he'll have saved $xk

My thoughts exactly. When the traffic grinds to a halt ahead, and there is a muppet who is 2 inches from your back bumper and only has forward vision as far as the end of his bonnet, it is always good to have somewhere else to go like the hard shoulder. Problem is, if he/she is thick enough to tailgate, they may end up following me onto the hard shoulder.
