Gotta confess me and wife went to Watson bay for lunch....errrmm Doyles do a great fish and chip meal and wife loves kalimari ( is that spelt right!) anyways..battered squid!
Sorry NickY, I know the Greeks are supposed to have originated the meal...saw it on Shirley valentine - but I was out voted by wife..who always counts her vote as 2-1 and she prefers Doyles!

lol sorry but how pompous is that second review while the ‘Seared Scampi and Tea Smoked Potato with Cabbage and Smoked Bacon’ made me cry. I don't like the idea of food making me cry - would rather a different emotion but possibly not with Hels

Will check out the web site though, thanks.

Hey, that's an idea. Sounds good to me As long as no one puts any Goats Cheese with it.

Does, doesn't it. Don't see the need for a 10% weekend surcharge but that's the joy of Sydney I guess.

Makes a change to see desserts that don't all have chocolate on as well.

Doyles do good fish and chips - there's no doubt about it - but what you get is standard fish and chips, tartare sauce that tastes like it comes out of a bottle, boring salads - for an absolutely extortionate price. They only get away with it because they're famous and every visitor to Sydney wants to go there.

There are other places, that do better seafood, in just as nice a setting as Doyles, where you don't get that 'I've been ripped off' feeling.

I don't have a sweet tooth anyway... so I don't care about the chocolate.

Some bugs would go down well though, I feel, with a nice glass of semillon chardonay, very chilled.

I'd like a table with a view.

Can I make a few suggestions. My personal favourite is Fish at the Rocks, not far from the Lord Nelson, great seafood, good atmosphere, great service and a good wine list, although you can BYO. There are also a couple of good places on the Wharf down at Woolloomooloo although you pay a bit more for the location. Of course the best place to eat seafood is the Fish Markets itself. Perhaps not very plush but the food is as fresh as you can get, cheap, plentiful and tastes great!
