From what I can see, a good solar system will comfortably give around 7 1/2 months a year swimming (in Perth). So this is good enough for me.

If I want to spend a 'ridiculous' amount of money on gas heating then I will! My children are tiny, all boys under 4 years old. My husband is a diver so he takes them into the pool in all weather and the nearly 4 year old almost knows how to use a regulator.

I would rather spend 'thousands' (it's not by the way) on an activity that is sports related. If we see sunshine forecast for the weekend, then we use the pool, whatever the temperature outside.

No we just use it as and when. Supposed to put it on the night before according to our friend the Gas Engineer, but my cousin came over from Sydney a few weekends back and we forgot! We put it on in the morning and after 4 hours it was up to 28 degrees, that's a nice temperature for the children. If it's windy it's a bit chilly though.

Our two year old doesn't move about fast enough to stay warm yet, so it's great for him. I'll ask my husband what the exact cost is.

We haven't put any heating in yet although the pipes are there, we just can't decide what would be best. Our hot water is solar powered and we have to put the electric pump on quite a few night in winter because the low angle of the sun hasn't done it's job. Haven't got a blanket either, I like looking at the water too much:D

I did see something at a house and garden show but I didn't get the details. I think it was some sort of turbine thing that used the air temp to make the water in pipes hotter but as you can tell I am fairly brainless about such stuff and the OH was bored by that point and wanted to go home :lol:
