Re: swan taxis perth
They still are. They either don't turn up, turn up 2,3 , 4 hours late at times, or don't know where they are going. The taxi industry is a bloody disgrace here. I once got a taxi to east perth train station to catch the Indian Pacific. The driver (mid eastern guy) was working for the owner and drove down guildford rd (a 60k area) at 90k. I had to argue with him and yell at him to slow down to the legal limit. Tried telling me it was 90k area. Seems in the end he wanted to get rid of me quick so he could go to his next fare. Putting us both at danger didn't seem an issue to him.:curse:
Another time I rang for a taxi from the hyde park hotel about 30 mins before closing. 2 hours later a cab turned up, not booked for me but took me anyway. Had to give him directions as he was too stoned to know what was what or where.:curse:

Ok if you have a car or friend to drive you to airport. A lot of people don't have either. I will never book red-eye flights simply because I can't trust the taxi industry here to turn up on time. Never ever had that problem in NZ or UK. Only problem I had in UK was shoddy mini cabs who tried you on. In London ALWAYS take a Black Cab I reckon.

Taxis in Sydney are pretty bad too. I lived in Newtown in the '90s and half the taxi drivers there did not know where it was and I had to give them directions. Driving standards were appalling.
At Brisbane airport, a taxi driver did not know a hotel, 5 minutes from the airport that does 90% of it's business from passengers. We had to look the place up in his UBD!

Re: swan taxis perth
I was going to leave it at that for a laugh, but I thought I better explain.
You cant really blame the drivers for the shit you guys get. It’s the system!
A lot of taxi drivers out there are driving a taxi because they cant get a job anywhere else (for a number of reasons)
Its one of the jobs where they will take anyone. If you can drive a car, then u can jump into a cab with little training and do what you like! you don’t even really have to speak the lingo.
Its so hard to fill the taxis with drivers because they get paid washers.
Here are some examples of taxi driving.
Gold coast taxi drivers (because that’s where I live at the mo)
At this time of year (it’s very seasonal) the average takings for a taxi is around $270 for a 12 hour shift. The driver gets 45% of that, from which he pays his Tax, GST, and insurance($5) per shift. Doest take a genius to work out what the driver is left with.
Added to that he/she will get at least 1 nutter, 1 almighty laugh, and 1 really nice person per shift.
But, and it’s a big but!
They also on regular occasions get,
Spat at, assaulted, abused, vomited on, and in some extreme cases murdered. But the thing most taxi drivers worry about most when they start their shift, is the runner! It hurts them in the pocket. The have to bear the cost of the ride. Not the owner. To combat this, the taxi driver can ask for the money up front to the cost of the ride, but this usually results in the driver being spat at, assaulted, or abused.
98% of taxi drivers get you home safer than any other way you choose to get home, even if your pished oot yir nut.
The odd freak gets through and it’s a shame some of you have suffered from that.
Im not defending the drivers who haven’t given you the service you deserve, but just letting you know what these people have to go through every time they get out of bed to go to work. I know most of you will be asking “why do they do it then”
I cant answer that. All I will say is…..
If you have a nice driver. Why not tip him and tell him why you are being so generous. It works in the UK so why not here?
Right im aff ma soap box noo

Had a good experience with a taxi driver the other week.
Hubby was p*ssed and trying to get a taxi home (I couldn't pick him up because he didn't know where he was).
I rang his mobile after about an hour to see where he was and the taxi driver answered. He said ' your hubby has been working very hard and has fell alseep, where do you live?'
I gave him directions and he dropped him off, at the nearest hostel I think, I haven't seen him since

Do agree with you, but what happened to Maggy shouldn't have.
