Aloe Vera is the best, you can even use it straight from the leaf.

Don't forget that the heat is damaging, not just the UV etc, don't stay out for hours just because you've got lotion on.

Just to make you feel a bit better - a few years ago I got a reaally stupid shaped sun burn on my back. I was playing tennis and put a v-neck vest top on - didn't realise it also went down into a v-neck at the back. So I just slapped some sun tan cream on my neck and down my back a little bit.

Move 8 hours forward and I caught a glimpse of a hand on my back in the mirror - yes, I had burnt the shape of my own hand onto my back, where I had just reached so far down. Smoooooth

Haha! It's so not cool when you have a backless dress to wear the next night... But not quite as funny as when my sis burnt her bum cheeks a fair few years back, she was an insolent teenager and wouldn't be told!

we too swear by Woolworths home brand factor 30+ massive bottle with a pump, I decant it into a smaller bottle for my handbag. Its great value, rubs in well and works

Just put moisturizing lotion on the sunburnt parts regularly.... 2 or 3 times a day, for several days afterwards....that will stop it from peeling (unless it is a bad burn). Also, drink water.

hevs said cool showers, but I'm not sure this is a good idea... if you start taking more showers than you normally would, the water will wash away the natural oils in your skin and dry it out.... making it more likely to peel. (that's what I reckon anyway).

Thanks,

Helena one word of advice- dont TRY to get a tan here as if you have the kind of skin that tans anyway you will get a tan without trying, so just make sure you all cover up as much as poss and wear a wide brimmed hat and sunnies or you will have a seriously wrinkled face. If hubby burns make sure you dont forget to put suncream on his ears! GO EASY ON IT.

Sorry Ems shouldn't laugh, I did the same thing last summer- thought I was covered and creamed and not till I got home and I gave a good scratch to what I thought was an itch did I find that I had missed a bit at the back of my shoulder Holy s*** it really caned- espcially as I ripped off what was left of the top layer of skin with my nails!
anyway my cure all is aloe vera and lots of water to drink It always takes the sting out of the burn and just seems to calm the skin.

I agree I have olive skin and tan very easily. I always cover up with factor 30+ but still end up brown! Worrying really.

yep NB, my daughter has olive skin and its scary how quickly she went brown when we arrived here, she has never lost the colour- she thinks its so cool (13yr old) she has the kind of deep golden tan that some people would kill for but I keep telling her that its not a good thing and that she must cover up, she totally thinks I'm over reacting -it worries the hell out of me!
