Line of Duty on iplayer or Hulu Plus is also very good

Cool, I'll check it out.

We watched Bluestone 42 on a recommendation last night but though it was a bit lame.

This is a great site for seeing what's available plus you can use Unblock-us' Netflix region changer to get the full Netflix selection:

The 1st series of LOD is not available on iplayer but is on US Hulu Plus

I tried watching the 1st series of B42 and thought it was a load of shite - not all comedy is created equal

I'll check out that site

Looks okay and the price is similar to the Roku 3. Amazon's Fire tablets are pretty good, although configured more towards their own services. It will be interesting to see if this is the case with their MP. One of the good things about Roku and Smart Hub is that they are not tied to any one service

For $99 it's worth a punt

Seems a bit of a busted flush. It's neither cheap enough to be a real player, nor with any real content that you can't get elsewhere. The linkage to the amazon tablet is expected, but makes it much less saleable as a result. About the only real plus point is it has a real wired ethernet port (thus 1080P is viable).

Frankly, if I were looking to enter this market I'd be looking cheap (eg <$30) and with inbuilt SmartDNS to bypass geolocking so you could easily access the world's TV catchup services from one box. Kind of like "TuneIn" but for global TV. Add on 802.11n, the ability get Netflix, etc. and stream your local DLNA/Plex content and you are away. Control would be via a smartphone/tablet app which would provide second screen capability.

Just tried to order one and as I thought, not available to ship outside the US

They will ship the Roku 3 so I would stick with that

Okie dokie, just checking, I was going to discuss a bizarre episode in series 2  but I won't spoil it for you. :D

Apple TV available at BigW for $64

https://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/...0/apple-tv.jsp

You have to find a store with stock (looks like they are clearing them out). IFAIK it's the latest generation model, which means it's not possible to hack, which limits it significantly. However, for the fanbois....

Beware Roku + Netflix will turn you into a couch vegetable.

Also Roku works really well with synology http://www.synology.com/en-global/
for streaming local content.
