I stopped off in SIN a few years ago but the hotel we stayed in was slightly dodgy (peninsula excelsior) - although could be MUCH better now!
Am stopped off again in about 3 weeks, staying at the sentosa resort. booked through Singapore Air Stopovers, $122, will let you know what I think.
There was a 101 things to do at singapore airport, which has some other activities outside the airport... you'll find it

?It is a nice city though, the towers look fab at night and its much cheaper than Singapore (singapore dollar v ringgits) the shopping is fantastic, lovely park and bird gardens to take kids round.

We done the same as you Possums, I think I'd try Singapore next, the drive back from KL city centre through the jungle in a tropical downpour with a vomiting three year old and a nine year old screaming she needs the toilet put us off doing it again !!

The other thing is flights certainly wouldnt recommend Malaysia at the mo, dont know whats going on with them but really gone downhill.
