A very deep pie made of suet pastry and then steamed. Yummy when done properly but can be a lead weight when done wrong. Suet pastry is a doughy thicker 'pastry' than short crust or flaky.

Here's a pic although I would sooner die than poor gravy over it before serving, that's just feral.

My OH was just saying the other day that he hasn't had a steak and kidney pud for years.

As I loathe kidneys, he won't get one in the near future either.

But I'd love to make some suet dumplings, though they have to be GF ones, and all the packets have wheat flour in them.

I will have to pluck up courage to ask the local butcher for some beef suet.

Nope- it was common all over the UK, as using suet filled people up when there wasn't much meat around. My mum (a southerner) used to make it. I loved the suet but hated the kidney. Took forever to boil until she got a pressure cooker. I used to love her golden syrup spotted dick suet puddings.

Maybe if I ask for Atora not Aurora I might find it. Will have a look, our Coles has a manager who sounds like he is from Yorkshire, will ask him he should know what I am on about.

Thanks
