Blimey ! Not heard of anyone I've previously came in contact with getting bitten by a Snake.

Could be of great interest to new migrants this thread, inasmuch as the outcomes for this kind of thing are generally good.

Was it a Mulga/King Brown snake... apparently they produce heaps of Venom... Treated as a Black snake bite apparently ?

Hope all goes well for you from now on.

You should not lose your licence, as you can appeal, and the fact that it was a medical emergency should be enough to get you off

More hugs ((())) for you and yours.

I read somewhere a while ago that Perth has the most snake bites of any Australian state capital. The most common snakes are the dugite (usually in dry areas, including beach dunes) and the tiger snake (usually near wet areas). Spring is well and truly here, so it's the time of year when they're coming out of hibernation and are very hungry.

Last December a man from Gingin died after being bitten by a western brown snake at his house. Gingin is only 87 km north of the Perth CBD.

And if it's the same one I'm thinking about, he didn't go to hospital right away because he wanted to find the snake first. There's a lesson in there about timely medical assistance after a bite.

Eddie...glad your hubby is doing well and will recover. And you have me convinced now to stock a snakebite kit in the car because you never know...

I read that his young daughter was in the house and he wanted to make sure she was safe from the snake. Very sad that he didn't call an ambulance straightaway.

Walking through the dunes might also work.

Lager + Cider + Blackcurrent is often a bad mix.

I've seen quite a few Tiger snakes...Couple of times down at Coburg Lake, which is only 8ks from the CBD and plenty of times up in Nagambi. They are quite different in behavior to other snakes and easy to identify, as their body is covered in stripes and they will actually stand their ground rather than slither away., ..

Just read up on them and noticed they vary in appearance quite widely. The ones I've seen always look like this. Very common in Melbourne. Really have to watch my Dog when walking along the Merri Creek here as this is the time of year they are waking up and likely to be near the creek edge in the Afternoon.

Eddie, I have started a facebook group for snake catchers of WA to pass on their knowledge, tips, identification photos that may help plus the number of the DEC Wildcare Helpline that has a list of snake catchers in various areas.

I have also posted photos of snakes that I had to catch on my course - to aid with identification but dugites and tigers can vary in colouring as you say.

If it can help just one person or stop them from being bitten then that would be enough. I have made you a member as well.

I think I'm correct in saying that Tiger Snakes account for more fatalities than any other snake. Quite high on the Venom Toxic table. Have they worked out what exact snake it was that bit your OH ?

Be interesting to hear how long it is before he recovers fully as well.

Hope all is well.... well as it can be .
