A slightly contentious question

Having read thru, as you do.., many many threads and responses on the forum, both in here and the main forum. I sense that some of the expats, feel .. Australia OWES them..
I mean, heres an example:
Its a BRITISH COUNTRY anyway.WE own AUSTRALIA !
whats your views on this.??
I must admit it infuriates the hell out of me.
A week or so ago, i think JAD made a post, a xcerpt of that is when in rome
Do you think we need to educate immigrants in the pre migration process, on their big move?
Do poms in general have a chip on their shoulders?
Are poms, ever so slightly defensive whilst equally being offensive.?
.. just a thought

One thing that's struck me is that few people appear to be genuinely thankful to Australia for allowing them in.
There's a common attitude along the lines of 'I qualify to come here and I'll be paying taxes, therefore it's my right to be here. And by the way, give me everything I'm entitled to' (whether it be first home buyer grants, citizenship, rent rebates etc).
Don't see many conveying any real gratitude to Australia. Barely a week goes by without me thanking my lucky stars that:
a. Australia exists.
b. I found it
c. It welcomed me when I wanted to stay.
Australia doesn't owe us anything. We owe it.

So I left
So I left

Lots of people assume they are doing Australia a favour by moving here. I'm sure a few are but in the most part they have moved here because they want what Australia can offer but they want it on their terms. They want the supposed lifestyle that they remember having when they were younger but they don't like the fact that to have that they also have to have other stuff that also appears 20 years behind the UK. They want the perceived safety for their children but want a 21st century supermarket.
Doesn't quite add up in my book.
The other thing I have never ever understood is the apparent lies "Australia" has told some to force them to move here. They see an ad on the TV for a wonder product and know it's just marketing but when it comes to ads about how wonderful Australia is, they believe it hook, line and sinker.
Some members of the world do not like to take responsibility for their lives. It's "too easy" to blame others when things may not go right continuously.
I think that covers it.
Disclaimer: Not everyone is like this and I'm not even thinking of anyone in particular but if this upsets you then it probably refers to you

OH and I have travelled and stayed in lots of countries (both ex RAF, He kittened crawled his way through them, I looked for somewhere to plug in my straighteners!) and I have to say with no disrespect to anyone, us brits can be awful high handed at times. the only thing we are owed is what we have put in. Australia is no worse and no better than a lot of countries its what you as an individual are prepared to contribute that makes the difference. No point in moaning, you only get one shot in this life, enjoy
