Sensitivity in the MBTUK forum
 

I often post in the MBTUK forum as I moved back last year with a view of staying for 12-18 months on a see how it goes.

Well after ten years in Australia I feel like Australia is my home and I have better prospects there due to contacts, coming back to London aged 34 to start again as a sales manager is a tough ask, especially when you don't have those contacts.

Anyway, i enjoy reading peoples posts and putting my two cents in too but lately a select amount of people appear to get quite nasty and bitter when you challenge their rationale about moving back so soon etc.

I also find disappointingly many are extremely negative about the locals, taking a blanket approach to say, Australians assuming they are all thick and uncultured because their land maybe old but only has 250 odd years of western rule and history. Amazingly there are people on there who have lived in 4 or 5 countries and still are not settled yet continue to bad mouth their environment, sounds like a look in the mirror is over due.

I get it, some people really don't like it and feel short changed, and maybe I view the MBTUK forum the wrong way.

I do worry some Brits when they experience life in another country all of a sudden start to vision the UK like some Emily Bronte novel and not the reality of modern day britain, which is great but not wuthering heights.

I am sure many others post in here too, and i am not singling anyone out or saying everyone is like that..

Tis a scary place ;)

I stayed in the UK longer than you, I went back for 4 years, although I did go back permanently.


I did learn that "Nothing is Permanent" :rofl:

the thing is, in the main we are talking about unhappy people and they do deserve some empathy. most people on that forum are fair dinkum decent but there are times when xenophobia is all too apparent. In many cases, knocking the UK will result in a pack attack 10 times worse than any Barbie mauling.
That said, I did find it very useful prior to arriving in Aus because there are no rose tints on there regarding Oz:D

I have mixed feelings, but do understand what some are going through.

I post in there.....I am not unhappy.

I will return to live in the UK one day though....that has always been my plan

Why not both, I like to think if I had your financial resources I would try for both... each year

I've met a few that do this Grayling...

Hells bells, I'd like to throw in a one way Cruise now and again as well....

I've hardly scratched the surface of Europe is my main reason.

I fancy spending my retirement 50/50 in Malaysia and Italy - then if I have one daughter in the UK and one in Australia, I won't be too far away from either :thumbsup:

We spent a month travelling around Malaysia on our way out to Australia and just found it a good mix of East & West, still cheap, very friendly, great food, great shopping, interesting history, cheap internal flights to nice beach destinations and plenty of innovation too.

In the past I've travelled a fair bit in Asia - but, for me, Malaysia was the most liveable.

For a few people (not all)

I think changing countries can cause depression. For many people. then the depression makes the new country seem flat and lifeless - but that is a symptom of depression - even your own country seems like that. Then they think that Australia is to blame, when its just an emotional response to upheaval and uncertainty.

Some people are just whingers

some people think they are moving to the uk with sun - then get disappointed

some are at the wrong stage of their life

some it just doesnt suit

I find all of the forums here quite aggressive at times. It doesnt bother me but people can get quite shirty for daring to have an opinion that is different. Also I dont really understand the looking down at Australia and Australians as if they are somehow less than the british. less than some perhaps but a lot of people aren't exactly from the middle classes in their home town yet they seem to rise a rank when they arrive in Australia.

Also it makes me laugh when some people say they have travelled and are like I;ve been to spain, to turkey, to singapore etc and I think oh yes Airtours Benidorm 1998, Turkey Thomson specials booked on teletext 1999 and singapore for a day to wait to stop over. It can be really obvious that the ignorance isnt all found in the Australians
