And again, back on land

Falcon Heavy is currently due for Dec (like three of these strapped together). And yes, the plan is for all three stage 1 units to fly back and land to be used again, separately.

Next SpaceX launch due in about 20 mins from now.

Live stream on youtube :

This one has them trying to land on the barge again, no boostback and coming in hot.

Edit : Landed right in the middle of the circle - they are are getting good at this (though not at the video, which cut out again)

It's not, but I've posted similar here before in the thread and I hate starting a new thread for the hell of it.

I happen to think what Musk is doing is one of the few true bright, building, spots in a world that seldom seems to try to do anything interesting today. So I post links in the vein of 'good news'.

Musk is announcing how he plans to put a colony on Mars at the end of September, and I expect I'll post that too.

I KNEW someone was going to say something like that .....

What he's describing in September is the basic design of the BFR and BFS to carry 100 people at a time to Mars (the 'R' stands for Rocket and 'S' for Spaceship, I'll let you work out what the other letters are...)

It looks like SpaceX are finding out the hard way (just like NASA, Russia, China, UK etc before them) that going into space is difficult and dangerous work

It's not all a nerd circle jerk and high fives after yet another successful mission........

Re: The Sci-fi thread

Overnight Elon Musk presented his architecture plan for getting large numbers of people and cargo to Mars

as he says in the
, this isn't some Disney imagining, the models are their direct CAD models of what they are planning to build, and indeed are building (he showed both the fuel tank, and the engine test). His aim is still to get men (and women) to Mars, launching in 2024.

Personally I'd have a bunch of questions about the system design and trade offs, but the numbers are impressive (taller than the Saturn 5, with 3.5 times the payload capacity, 100 people, 115 days to Mars).

Slide deck used : SpaceX Mars Architecture Slides - Album on Imgur

The reason I post these updates is because it's one of the few things that makes me feel positive about the future is that kind of mentality of "the future is that way, let's do it".

Would you go to Mars if the opportunity arose? I think I would...

As I said to someone when we discussed the same question - your final destination isn't in doubt. How you get there is, and living out your the remainder of your life on another planet would, to me, count as doing something worthwhile.

S

Some people on here already living on a different planet.

I read The Martian (god awful book) and so I think I've got it down on how to survive on Mars. But why not go somewhere warmer like Venus? The Canary Islands of the solar system. No Corrie though.

Tell you what. We can send the liberals, centralists and democrats to 'red' Mars, and the far right, tea baggers, coalition and GOP to the most appropriate place for them, Venus.

How's that sound?
