Default Restaurant recommendations on the Gold Coast

I thought I’d investigate other peoples restaurant recommendations on the Goldie… We’ve obviously been to a few in the last 3 years, but just wanted to see if we’ve missed any hidden gems!

Our favourite 2 places have got to be Moo Moo’s at Broadbeach (http://www.moomoorestaurant.com/). Just love the food, friendly staff and location. A very close second is Red Rock Waterfront Bar & Grill on Hope Island – great place, especially with the free bottle of wine voucher!

What do you think?

Lots of choice and a pretty high standard on the GC.
Our favorites are Indian - Safron Broadbeach, Italian - Trio Romano Mermaid Beach, Steak - Moo Moo's Broadbeach & Cav's Labrador, Japenese Cha Cha's Broadbeach, Hotel - Seafood Sensation Sheraton Mirage.
Ones to avoid in our experience are any chain / franchise such as Sizzler (full of Bogans) or Hogs Breath.

Never been to a Sizzler but have been to the Main Beach Hogs Breath a couple of times and had brilliant food. Also for that type of experience the Lone Star at Mermaid isn't bad.

Signatures at Twin Towns is lovely, and for pushing the boat out, Oskars at Burleigh is fab. Woodchoppers at Mudgeeraba has a great reputation but not got there for a meal so no personal experience.

This place at Broadbeach is great:

http://www.mariosrestaurant.com.au/menu.asp

When ordering pasta, Entree size only required - main size is too big!

I would recommend Fuel on Chevron Island, its a small bar/rest and they do a 2 for $20 menu which and is really good and they usually have some sort of entertainment too. Been to loads in Broadbeach and always found them good. Also have to admit to having been to the Aqua Cafe at Labrador for a $2.99 breakfast, good value but hate the advert for it!!!

Seoul BBQ is awsome. Not much to look at but the food is fantastic. If you know what you are doing its easy or the staff will show whats what. Great food at reasonable prices. Go for the standard set of meat if 2 or the bigger one for 4. Awsome. I might even be going tomorrow night again.

Woodchoppers at Mudgereeba is good, but a bit on the expensive side.
you pay extra for vegetables etc and wine list is a bit more than average.
Koko nut Willi's at the Grand Hotel in Labrador serves good food, at reasonable prices and the location is great.
Most of the surf clubs we have eaten at, Northcliffe, Kurrawa, Coolangatta, Southport, Nobby Beach all serve decent food and you can't beat the views.

We had a good meal at The Beach House in Broadbeach, very good steak.

Been to Mermaids and Oskars in Burleigh a few times, fab views but food is hit and miss at both, Oskars possibly slightly better.

Saffron indian is the best on the coast for a curry we've found so far.

Crown Plaza (Four Winds) seafood buffet was nice, something for everyone and tasty food, but i'm not a huge fan of buffet food as i stuff my face to get my moneys worth and then regret it when i can't move!!

Pink Poodle -CRAP!

Saks - Marina Mirage - overpriced and average.

The Italian in Varsity on a tuesday does pizza/pasta and 2 drinks for $20 - good value and tasty food.

Hard Rock Cafe does scrumptios nachos and chicken burgers and makes a change.

Still not found a mexican that can beat the old faithful old del paso fajita kit

I agree that you can't beat the views of the surfclubs but i think the menus are pretty predictable and can't really say i've ever had a really nice meal at one.

We love the cheese platters at the wineries near Tambo.

Loads and loads to try though aren't there?, it's Broadbeach food week this week and there are loads of offers on, 3 course meals for 35 rather than 55 etc, so we'll be trying somewhere new this week.

I heard that the Thai in Mudgeerba is very good and we tried to book a table one night and they were full so thats a good sign and the new Brewery in Tambourine looks like it does nice food and its a really nice setting, we did the beer tasting thing which was very nice.

Our favourites so far are

Thai Mudgee in Mudgeeraba - small thai restaurant

Benihanas at the Marriot Surfers - Teppanyaki restaurant

The Bearded Dragon in Tamborine - quality food very similar to english pub food, it serves guiness and kilkenny as well as draught bulmers

Marios in Broadbeach - quality italian, portions are huge

Fox and Hounds - english pub in Wongawallan

Best value for money is all you can eat at Twin Towns in Coolangatta, $49 for a couple and on a thursday you get a free bottle of wine, lots of quality choice

Woodchoppers in Mudgeeraba was nice, the sunday lunch is only $12:50 but its small portion and was only average. The normal meals are better. We go here cos its our local and is a quality pub, no pokies and has a good english feel to it
