I always seem to get the hairgamma from the biker friends I understand it translates into how are you going mate? I read about it in a book and it still cracks me up 
I have also been told the correct response is s'righ, I love it here

I just reply 'fine thanks' although i feel like saying 'none of your business'

Not sure if it will work in Oz, but I think it's the same as NZ.
I often reply "I'm a box of fluffies (short for fluffy ducks).You?" or "Can't complain"
My OH says, or "Oh, all my ducks are in a row."
The standard reply is "Good thanks."

Works most of the time. In the same way 'Please' goes with 'Thanks' (or any other derivative).
Spot on.
Occasionally I depart from the norm and I find that all that happens is that you get some interest or a chat which I think is the whole point - it's a starting point. I often say, "still alive" in a very dry way and that always gets a laugh.
