Depends on wind. Darwin airport was shut for a day on their last cyclone which was small but dropped a lot of rain.

Yes.
Barring a catastophic and unexpected change. Heavy rain forecast but thats it at present. The Low is sitting well off the coast and is still debating what it wants to do - if it does go cyclonic it'll be after Monday morning now that it affects the coast. Cairns is well used to nasty weather and we (at work) have had no indications from them that the airport is likely to close. You should be fine for Monday

Food recommendations? No idea, sorry, only been there once, and I have no idea where we ate - I was with a crowd from work who knew it better than me; I remember one bistro-type place called Rattle and Hum, noisy but good pizzas and good choice of beers/ciders. I was with a group of colleagues I only knew through phone calls before that night, we had an absolute ball and I seem to have acquired a lot of Brownie Points for managing to keep up with some very hardened drinkers
Have a look at some of the threads on Cairns, there have been several people asking about going up there on holiday so there must be some recommendations in there somewhere!!

Cyclone season does not finish until the end of April.

Rattle & Hum is a pub & does pub style food, it is generally ok but avoid the nachos!
The Salt House is very good, not cheap & is also a good place for a drink. They often have live music at the weeknds. This is at the far end of the Esplanade, past The Pier shopping centre where there are also some good restaurants & lively bars.
The night markets are meant to be good for Chinese food although I haven't eaten there myself.
Villa Romana is good if you like Italian.

A monsoon trough is expected to sit just off the FNQ coast for a few days next week, so expect plenty off road closures between ingham and cooktown and with 500mm possible in some places its going to be wet.

Synoptic Situation: At 4am EST, a tropical low was located near Cape Melville and moving towards the southwest. The low is expected to move across the Cape York Peninsula, reaching the southern Gulf of Carpentaria on Monday where it could possibly develop. A strong southeast wind change moving northwards over the east coast is likely to bring enhanced rainfall to the tropical coast
between Cooktown and Bowen tonight and on Monday.

Areas of heavy rain and thunderstorms causing flash flooding and flooding of low lying areas are expected to continue affecting the Cape York Peninsula today, extending to the Gulf Country tonight and on Monday as the Tropical Low moves into the southern Gulf of Carpentaria. A flood warning remains current for the Nicholson and Lower Norman Rivers.

Areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms about the North Tropical Coast and Herbert and Lower Burdekin forecast districts, between Cooktown and Bowen, becoming heavy tonight and on Monday. The heavy rain is likely to lead to flash flooding.

Cho Gao at the Pier is nice. But ask for extra chilli to hurdle the assumed blandness of the Aussie palate. Hanuman is good food yet a little like eating at an airport lounge atmosphere wise .. The Salt House does a great breakfast and is definitely the most stylish place around and is actually nicer in the rain!
