Queensland - possible Tropical Low developing

Early heads up - Tropical Low building in the Coral Sea off the north Queensland coast, likely to be bringing an increase in wind and rain as we get towards the weekend. At present expected to move towards the coast from Sunday.........
Unclear at the moment whether it will develop further and become a Tropical Cyclone but conditions are looking favourable for that to happen, so anyone up north.....also unclear at the moment whereabouts it is likely to come onshore.

Will certainly bring a lot of rain with it nto already saturated ground.

keep your eyes peeled and get your cyclone kit stocked up.

Re: Queensland - possible Tropical Low developing

Queensland could be in for more bad weather as forecasters warn activity in the Coral Sea in the far north could become a cyclone.

Weather bureau forecaster Brian Rolstone there are virtually no fine areas over Queensland and a tropical low is developing off the coast, east of Cairns. "It might move in too fast before it gets to tropical cyclone level - it might just be a tropical low and that's about all," he said.
"But it's still going to produce increasing rainfall along that north-east coast there."

Also likely to be some serious rain all the way down the east coast it seems.
They are taking it seriously enough at work to have canceleld the office move with 48 hours to go so we can work in a familiar environment (as opposed to one with dodgy lighting and no functioni9ng kitchen )

Bureau forecast chart for the next 4 days.

Whether this becomes a Cyclone or remains a Low it will bring a large amount of rain to the northern half of the State, including areas already saturated, and battered from TC Yasi.

Current outlook for the Coral Sea -

A weak low lies in the far northeast Coral Sea. The low is expected to move
slowly southwest over the next few days with a moderate chance of developing
into a cyclone on Sunday. At the present time, the low is not influencing
Queensland's weather.

Friday: Very low
Saturday: Very low
Sunday: Moderate

Plenty of steady rain to come in the south east (see current 512 radar below), flood warning out on coastal stream Noosa to the NSW border, including the Upper Mary River. Streams will flood quicker than usual because the ground is already so wet.

Current Low is off the coast of Papua New Guinea. The low is expected to move slowly southwest over the next few days. It is very weak, but its now expected to interact with a SE change on Monday and deepen as a result, how much it deepens is still anyone's guess. Where it moves when that happens is also anyone's guess......... It'll be sitting east of Cairns on Sunday, very much a case of watch and wait. Also highly likely that another Low is following along behind......
Whatever it does though there is a lot of rain heading for the northern half of the State (Mackay northwards), maybe upwards of 200-300mm in 24-48hrs.
