President Donald Trump

Re: President Donald Trump
And I'd have to assume there's 10s of thousands of people with the qualifications I mention (eg at least 0.05% of the population). That's not the problem. The problem is the selection mechanism doesn't pull them to the fore or allow you to select them.
Oh and as for bankruptcy being 'a business strategy' - it's always been a hoot how the far right screams blue murder about someone on the poverty line potentially fiddling the dole - but is quite OK with a businessman using bankruptcy to avoid responsibilities and cost everyone else millions of dollars....

Not asking for perfect, just for suitably qualified.

Sorry but why isn't Don as qualified as the next person to be Pres? Lessons learned on bankruptcy would be a good asset in my opinion.

The giving the 1% tax cuts and not having a balanced budget so eventually paying for it via cutting services is Abbott level bad; but its not his primary problem(s).

Gerry you do come over as a complaining revolutionary, (not in the political sense). You really have the hatchet out for the elite establishment anyone who perhaps had luck and advantage as well as education and oppprtunity.

I'm in Garry's gang on this one - he is right!

The point is anyone who's job has been to tell lies for a living, has got to be good at it. In fact their immediate solution to any problem is to tell complete porkies about it - which is a bad set of characteristics for someone you need to trust, AND needs to actually make things better.
As an example, the result is for the professional liar to look at the climate change problem and lie about it (not a problem, we're taking action, etc.) whereas you actually need someone who will do something serious.
Nope, though I have known a far number of that 'elite establishment', so maybe have a different perspective.

I did say professional liar.

Yep I have to agree with Badge. Seems like there's a deep seeded hatred for anyone who has done a little better, whether it be through work or acquisition. Very ugly.

As for the second paragraph, it's totally daft - quite the reverse, as I've stated I want people who HAVE achieved, really achieved - just you need to keep out that have got where they are by lying, since you can't fix the big problems by changing the way you describe them, etc.

Your reply is a non sequitur, it has nothing to do with what I said, nor the reasoning given.

Re: President Donald Trump
I think it's a bit naff to constantly bag people, to me it calls into question your own motivations ..if you yourself are successful and rewarded why worry?
There are people out there better placed than I ever will be..good for them. I admit though I probably share establishment views, but I also do empathise and sympathise, possibly what trump doesn't do of course. Sure the guy is a knob but Garry has it out for anyone in public life or at the top of their game..constant references to idiots at the top..sounds like someone at the bottom. Yet I known Garry is a capable bloke in his own right: I've got time for him. Despite Garry's obvious intellect, he still resorts to 'them and us' style arguments.

I sympathise with GarryP's point but overall, don't bang a drum over people who have done well for themselves regardless of background.

People keep trying to put words into my mouth, then have a go at me for things I haven't said. Remember, I think he's a closet democrat (look up the evidence)
As far as 'them and us' - what I have a problem with is the massive 'unbalance' between the 1% and the rest, and what that means big picture wise for the instability it creates. The aims aren't the same and that's a big problem going forward. Note I DON'T have a problem with those that put the effort in doing well - that's part of making a society driven by greed work. However that's got bounds.

In a discussion you need to question ones motives, for sure, and as Garry has said before he would never ever vote for the right side of politics so its an easy motive to dissect.
Trump like Abbott like Boris are bafoons on the surface. Stange appearances, say a few things that raise a few eyebrows, and its great fuel for the left. Everyone knows Abbotts major downfall was he was a terrible salesman. Terrible. The worst of them all. Politicians need to sell their ideas. They need to convince their ideas are right where ideas can be debated either way.
Trump will make decisions and communicate them and he will know pretty quickly whether they are popular or not. At least there will be no confusion. Confusion is worse than lying in my opion. Confusion was what tripped Abbott up.
