Posties 'procedures' suck!

Whilst we're having a bit of a postie grumble .... I was somewhat pee'd off with their methods of handling a complaint a couple of years or so ago. We had to park temporarily on the green strip outside our fence one morning - we left loads of room for the postie - or so we thought! Anyway, new postie comes along, can't control his/her little motorbike whacks into our fence with his/her saddle bags, bounces off it and bashes into the car, puts his/her foot down and speeds off. There was loads of room, you could almost have got two posties through side by side, it was only because they lost control that they hit us.
I phoned Auspost who sent 3 people out that day to look at the car who basically said there was no evidence that it was their driver, and even if it was, we shouldn't have been parked there anyway, so if we want to make a claim then they'll be contacting the council about us parking there and things could get unpleasant. Very intimidating. I was all in favour of persuing it but OH called them up and dropped the claim. We never saw the new young postie again, I think he/she was probably just put on a different route out of harms way.
There we go, I feel better for having had a grumble, I've stored that up for so long

There is a delivery rate of around one letter per 20 seconds... thats where the problem lies..... Plus the fact that Internet shopping has made mail delivery a hell of a lot more bulky over the last 24 months.
Your issue almost certainly is a non regular postie.... so by the time the complaint has filtered through they are not 100pct certain which postie was delevering in that part of 'burbs.
For Perth people.... It's so hard to get Posties in Perth that your actually lucky you've got a sembelance of a service at all. It's the only part of Australia now where you will get taken on "Permanent" straight away. There is loads of overtime there and the average Perth Postie would be earning around 65,000+ plus 9 pct super.
They would never be able to deliver registered items if they were not able to get off of their bikes. The rule is the bike must not be unattended.
I'm almost certainly becoming a Postie... After my first 8 years as a Parcel Driver and the Last 8 years as a night sorter. I'll have a regular round very close to me in Pentridge Village by the looks of things. I'll get to know after a few months where the people are regularly home and those that are always out. Which means the carded Issues should be kept to a minimum through local knowledge. I'll be able to write the cards out before I leave the office and not have to carry bulky mail with almost no complaint. Holidaying and people off for other reasons excepted.

In a house I had this problem - I was often in when they left a card saying I wasn't. It was a small terrace and about ten steps from gate to door. One day they even chucked a small parcel of prescription meds into the front garden, by the time I retrieved it it was covered in bugs (not to mention the danger of leaving meds lying around).
Now I'm in an apartment complex I expect it, but today a lovely man rang the buzzer to tell me he had a parcel; I wasn't dressed (well enough to go out of my door) so asked him if he could come up to level 5. He hesitated but did, trolley and all. He also asked me if I could take in a couple of parcels for my neighbour to save said neighbour having to go collect them (and our post office is open M-F, 9-5, no use to anybody really).
Sounds like he deserves a

I've worked for Apost for 16 years now. They are definitely supposed to get off of their bikes and knock. Although it is a lot easier to have a card filled in before they get to your place and even fill in one at your place than wait the usual 90 seconds that it takes for someone to come to the door and sign and answer.

Sounds like one of the loopholes like, whats the maximum size of item the posties can carry before they hand over to the drivers.. Thats always changing, been a contentious issue for years that one. Latest way around the size issue is Health and Safety.

That's really interesting that they are getting complaints to say this. I'll let the Guys at work know. Reason being they are always expected to knock at the front door with registered items... there are also items that are person to person that they are expected to deliver. They are even supposed to report to team leaders how many regies they carry and get extra time allocated to their days round time.... They rarely bother with that as they can never find the team leaders.

Our postie leaves our parcels hidden by our air con generator outside, noone can see it and if anyone got that far, the dog would be going ballistic anyway. But we are lucky, they leave cards if its contractors, if its small stuff that the postie carries, then left out for us.
If we see him and we are just leaving, he just hands us our stuff but its no biggy if we have to go to the PO as we are lucky enough to live about 6km from it anyway.

Lazy bastard, it's probably against H&S protocols to venture beyond the fence line
Spent all yesterday at home awaiting delivery of 3 registered post items, only to have the postie stick a note in the letterbox saying as it couldn't be delivered it was to be collected at the local post office. He didn't even knock at the door, which is only 2 metres walk from the pavement. I saw him through the window, and by the time I had got the door open he had sped off into the distance!!
Sooo I phoned the post office to tell them I was in fact here, have no way of getting to the post-office and asked them to re-deliver the item.
Nope, No-can-do apparently. They dont re-deliver items and their procedures are that they are not required to check if the person is in - bascially if you are not actually standing at the letterbox all day - which they require you to have within reaching distance of the pavement so the postie can do his drive-by posting then tough luck!!
IF the postie did do you the 'courtesy' of actually trying to deliver then he/she is actually really going out of their way
I can't drive and the bus routes round here don't even go anywhere near the post office, and for me it is around an hours walk along a busy road with a pram and no pavement/decent verge to get there. (From past experience the taxi companies can't be bothered coming out to outer suburbs of melbourne unless they are already dropping someone off (anytime, anywhere taxi company in Melbourne - should be done for trades description!)). No idea how i'm supposed to get the items within 5 days.
Howzat for rubbish customer service?

On the subject of Aus Post, I had to use Pack2Send today to send a camera to Ireland. Cost me $165 including insurance. If Aus Post were willing to send items with batteries by Air Mail, this would be a lot cheaper.

This lithium battery saga is now turning into a joke. I often order Lipo batteries from Hong Kong and they arrive in Australia by air - no worries at all. There were some issues a year or so ago where HK post did not want to send them by airmail but this has now been resolved. Royal Mail has some restrictions but not as onerous as Auspost. Lipo and Li-ion batteries are being sent around the world by air with no problems at all.
