Default Politics....smell the flowers while the house burns down......

Why are our politicians spending so much time on carbon Tax while people can hardly afford to pay their bills, pay the mortgage and buy food?Everything is getting more and more expensive and whilst carbon tax sounds great right now is not the time or the place to even be arsed. Is it a distraction from impending increases in costs

Seems a bit like smelling the roses whilst the house burns down

Yeah but I'm going to get $8 a year to help offset the increase in costs due to the Carbon Tax so I'm alright!

You obviously haven't heard the constant boasting about how Australians are among the richest in the developed world.

This weekend I saw a old lady ask for "two of the bacon on offer please" - the assistant confirmed "you mean two kilo"? and the old lady said "no, two rashers please love, can't afford more cos it's cost me nearly $1.50 for a tomato".......

that made my heart bleed

And that stupid Gillard bird is swanning around talking shite about carbon tax

Round here there's always a pile of groceries by the checkouts where people have unloaded food they can't pay for. Rarely saw that in the UK, and never in the States.

Whilst food in UK may be cheaper, household and fuel bills in UK have gone through the roof so I'm under no illusion it's any different in any other country. What pisses me off is the focus is on the wrong issues, maybe folk aren't interested in fighting back and telling the pollys to get their act together. It's a bit like the poll tax, people will only get angry when they get charged

What we need is for everyone to stop building stupid inefficient houses that rely on r/c aircon
Build houses with wide verandas and tin roofs that stay cool in summer and watch the power bills tumble.
People managed perfectly well in the past and I don't Jean the extremes of our climate up north.

my personal take on this is it isnt anything to do with "saving the planet" and more to do with her boastful promise to return the economy to the black by next year, having seen that slipping away they are trying to disguise another money earner as, just being "eco friendly" to achive this

Abso-bloody-lutly

that's my point mate. The pollys are selling this as a money saver when it's a money spinner - everyone will cop it in one way or another and if folks think it's been difficult this year let's see whats round the corner

...and once a new tax is introduced, it is never taken away.

Just like they said about income tax- originally designed as a temporary levy to help pay for war.

All these council environmental levies that are brought in are supposed to be temporary, but somehow get extended for another 5 years.

It's heartbreaking when people especially the elderly are forced to buy single items of food. That's just one tiny step away from not having it at all

What a bunch of heartless pillocks this country has in government

As one of gillards 'rich' I bought one small banana today, (supermarket ) $1.52 but I just craved one, got to car and broke it in half, shared it with son. I felt like a flippin HOBO but it makes you think how it must be for the elderly etc.

My family are above the $150k threshold, but we certainly don't feel rich: I have a choice of having my cataracts done, or flying back to the UK for my dad's funeral. (He's not dead yet, but according to my sister is in a bad way.) I'd already put the op off till next year as we can't afford it this year.

I too bought a banana the other day- just over a dollar. Found them on special, a bit bruised, at $5.99. I shared it with my daughter.
