[QUOTE=tomar;7019794]I wonder if part of the problem with people being unhappy when they move countries, either for work or immigration, is that their expectation level is too high.
Every country is different. I went to Africa on my own in my early 20's. It certainly lacked culture in Lusaka, but I made wonderful friends and met my husband there.
Have spent many years back in UK, before living in Brunei for 9 years, and now Australia for 5 years. Again Brunei lacked culture, only 1 fleapit cinema, and very limited supermarket choice when we first arrived. No fresh milk available for example, but things got better. Again we made great friends and were a great support for each other. We accepted that our life style had to adapt to our new circumstances.
We love living in Australia, and our son who is studying here in his 30's finds so much more to do than just go to the pub with his mates and spend too much there. The weather certainly helps!
Support from forums like this are invaluable when you are feeling low. We've all been there, but hope everyone gives their new country a chance.
The only failure in life is not trying something new, and if it's not for you you gave it your best shot.

Thats what I am hoping for with my family I always think the lack of weather and the uk culture just means everyone ends up in the pub and experiencing: nothing else. Not that I dont like the pub but there are other things.

At least the Uk has some decent bloody pubs to end up in.

What do you think people do in Queensland in the evening?...it is dark, the TV is shite, The mosquitos make it unpleasant to sit outside and it is often pissing down with rain at this time of year.....I would love to find a decent pub to end up in.

Is there a sense of community where you live? Do neighbours invite each other around?

You should have come to Adelaide G, I'd have kept you entertained

I like my local, it's a bikers pub so no different to where I used to go in the UK except they serve better food here (the one in the UK sold ham butties and that's about it)

Quick addition...

How can you know if it was the right or wrong decision? It's not possible to know how life would have gone without emigration, so you can't compare the two outcomes (emigrate/don't emigrate). Sure, it's possible to say "it hasn't turned out as I thought and hoped it would", but that doesn't necessarily mean it was a wrong decision.

Yours philosophically
