Re: Please take a long holiday first.
With anyone at all in the uk able to pass themselves off as a sparky, how do the wages compare to oz ? If you install even the most basic electrical item here you have to be licensed. Crikey, I refuse to get a sparky in to install a simple ceiling fan or new light fixtures.
whats that about 11 to 15 quid and hr
i was paying our lads 16 quid an hr plus a motor 2 1/2 years ago in the uk
having siad that some items are substancially cheaper over here housing for one
for what i sold our semi for in the uk ive bought a low set on 1 1/2 of an acre over here
that would of cost the earth in manchester so i think it evens its self out

He's on more per hour here than he was in the UK and does the same job (and less work)

Trying to make a person who does not share your opinion out to be a moron is somewhat immature and a little bullyish dont you think?
But then, thats My opinion

That's why my OH decided not to do domestic stuff here. He can earn more doing PLC stuff than he could working for someone else - and he really doesn't want to be a contractor as he needs the security of a wage. Plus the hours are better and he's home for 3:15 (good for him, not so sure about for me )

Re: Please take a long holiday first.
No, probably not much.
He is thinking of doing some sub contracting, still in the Manufacturing industry on PLC's. He's just waiting to see if the course that his boss said he may put him on comes off as he will then have a certificate (and we know just how much Aussies like their certs don't we? )
Mind you, he keeps saying he's going to look for another job, but he hasn't yet so I'm not holding my breath.

I do however, fail to see how my opinion could be construed by an intelligent person as being immature or bullyish, but I realise that sometimes the content of my posts are read by all sorts, not just intelligent sorts.

Thats the difference. I can accept opinions, no matter the content or so-called delivery because if the opinion is in response to a post I made, I am fully aware that opinion may or may not be factual.

Blimey!!!
No wonder I want to go back to uk!!!
I am a nurse with three children, I work very hard thankyou very much! There is no need to be so rude!
In my opinion, which I thought was the whole idea of this thread was to compare peoples opinions, I DO NOT want to work twice as hard for the same money, I want quality of life with my children. My husband is now working 6 days a week, and my 17 year old leaves the house at 6.30am and returns at 6pm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I dont think we are lazy!! We have less time with the younger 2 children, but still make an effort to make family time however this is very difficult, as I have worked nearly every weekend since arriving here!!!
But thanks for your OPINION!!

We came over here because this country wanted nurses, we are grateful for being given this opportunity.

And of course that is also a matter of opinion

Re: Please take a long holiday first.
FWIW, why don't you start working smart, cut your hours, salary sacrifice if you can, work 4 shifts and work more lates than earlies and work 2 weekends per month or go and work for an agency were you can pick and choose, sure your circumstances are different but as a level 1 with 7 years experience, my wife as a nurse earns a lot more here than in the UK over $80k gross - whats the big deal?

My OH started on the afternoon shift (3pm to 11:30pm) and when someone left from the morning shift he applied for their job. His bosses then said that because he was so good at his job they didn't want him to lose out on pay, so upped his hourly rate to the same one he was on doing afternoon shift, they also gave him a 4% pay rise on top of that (so he got 21% for applying for a job with better hours). The annual payrise of 4% was given a month later.
Just shows, that some companies do look after their staff.

Yes I agree nurses can earn good money, vitually pick their shifts and jobs etc.. lots of benefits (i do salary package and have a brand new car) personally my job opportunities etc and the friendly people out way anything in the uk, however it is not just about me!!!! My husband is working 6 days a week for $18.50 an hour with little job opportunities, because his qualifications are not recognised here!! And before anyone shouts, did you not look into that, yes we did but we were also aware that there are thousands of jobs to chose from so did not see it as a problem!!!
