Default Painters and Decorators... A question

We've just been quoted £1400 (in UK) for painting 3 rooms (2 at 11 by 11 and one 11 by 17) and 2 smallish hallways, one very small bathroom, and a galley kitchen. Is that about right, expensive, or a rip-off? It's basically one coat of paint everywhere except one wall, ceilings, doors and skirting boards. If anyone's in the know, would appreciate some advice.... Would usually paint myself, but don't have time because off to Oz soonist...

Not sure on cost as we are in Oz now, but if a professional is doing it it's never 'one coat of paint'. The walls will have to be prepared by rubbing down. filling any holes, rubbing that down. Then you might need a sealer coat and definitely two coats of emulsion. If ceilings, doors and skirting boards are being done the same rules apply. I expect £1400 is good. Pay peanuts get monkeys!
