Default Packing your own boxes

Hi!

I have a question to those of you who only shipped a few boxes over and packed them yourselves..

Did you have to write an inventry of everything that goes into each box? Anything else we should be doing?

Thanks in advance!

We packed our own..

Definately do an inventory!

We also put numbered stickers on each of the boxes corresponding to the inventory for easy reference..

Also worth doing is adding an address label to all of the boxes, with a contact address / phone number over here (just in case 1 box goes awol or something)

Im not sure if this will help as our stuff hits customs tomorrow (well nervous!!) but stuff like shoes, we grouped together in clear plastic boxes so they could see them without too much trouble, so that they could easily see they were cleaned etc

Basically anything that could have contained mud or dirt we did the clear plastic box approach (power tools / shoes etc)

Where did you get your clear plastic boxes from? Ive wondered if I should put my shoes in clear plastic sealable bags but not sure what to do for the best.

The boxes were just basic things like you'd get in No Frills or whatever in the UK....nothing fancy!

To make sure they were secure i drilled a couple of small holes each side where the lid meets the box and cable tied them

thanks for the advice/tips! I'm certainly not looking forward to packing. I've done it soooo many times but not where I'm moving so far away!!! When I first came to the UK I came with 1 suitcase!

We are going to pack as many clothes in our suitcase as we possibly can and hope to take 5/6 boxes.

Yeah that's what we plan on doing, my husband gets the 40kg allowance and I only get 20kg though!!! In saying that I'm sure I'll use at least half of his extra allowance anyway

I'm actually packing one box now, writing everything down, wondering if things are worth taking yet not wanting to throw anything sentimental away!

Hi,
I think we will end up having only a few boxes. What companies are you using to ship your stuff? Wish I was already at the packing stage - we still need to sell the house.
All the best,
Kathrin

Hi Fin

Where did you get your packing boxes from and are they expensive? You must be soo excited packing all your stuff. I am currently in the middle of shredding loads of paperwork so not quite the packing stage yet.

Well I have decided that when we do some more packing, I am going to go through the boxes I have packed already and vow to chuck half out.

Time to be ruthless
