That's probably because you're in QLD. Backwards up there. Need to get to a real city.

Here is a question. If you got loads of Curriculum Vitae (CVs). What is the plural of Curriculum Vitae?

(I secretly work for google )

JTL

Edit: I've found the answer, see below:

"The Latin plural of "curriculum vitae" is "curricula vitae". Some people who know a little Latin think it should be "curricula vitarum" (since _vitae_ means "of a life" and _vitarum_ means "of lives"); but to an ancient Roman, "curricula vitarum" would suggest that each document described more than one life. This is a feature of the Latin genitive of content, which differs in this regard from the more common Latin genitive of possession."
So now you know

I remember my last day at work, so surreal and a mixture of emotions. I also arrived here 7 months after my OH did, it'll be great seeing one another again. Good luck in your new adventure.

You mean like all these Sydney and Melbourne based recruitment agencies who all use the term "resume" Dean?

Yep, Broad Shoulders isn't wrong. First thing I had to do was delete CV off the top of mine and replace with Resume. I suppose it's the American influence in Australia.

I'm in the recruitment game and CV is the predominant term used within the industry. For professional positions anyway.

Well is it a CV or is it a résumé?

Résumé and CV is used interchangeably in Australia but there is a difference. A résumé is generally used for non-professional/low skilled jobs and is usually about one page in length but no more than 2.

A Curriculum Vitae on the other hand is more detailed than a résumé, usually about 2 - 8 pages in length and is used for professional, highly skilled positions.

With sites such as Seek and MyCareer, the content (non ads) is written by non-recruiters and they wouldn't know the difference between a CV and a résumé if it slapped them in the face.

If you actually do a search for professional positions on Seek or MyCareer (MyCareer's crap by the way and every job on MyCareer is also on Seek) you will find CV is used predominantly, while résumé is also used.

The Australian recruitment sector is heavily influenced by the British and every second recruiter you meet is probably a Brit.

Probably why you hear and use the term CV mostly then. I just did a quick search on Seek on the "exectutive positions" sections and not one of the results that came up in the first page used the term "CV", they all referred to a "resume".

I just did a quick search in the "executive positions" under IT & T and working from the top down, the first ad that I came to that mentioned either 'CV' or 'résumé' mentioned 'CV'. (Most were just 'apply online' with no mention of either)

http://executive.seek.com.au/users/a...JobID=17131449

The second ad that I came to that mentioned either mentioned 'résumé'.

http://executive.seek.com.au/users/a...JobID=17127679

I wasn't about to go through them all but any recruiter that is using the term 'résumé' for an executive position doesn't know their own job.

Here's a few more CV's:

http://www.seek.com.au/job/b-sap-b-t.../17140844/5/1/
http://www.seek.com.au/job/b-sap-b-f...17139565/28/1/
http://www.seek.com.au/job/b-sap-b-w...17137023/34/1/
http://www.seek.com.au/job/b-sap-b-m...17129999/68/1/
http://www.seek.com.au/job/experienc...17130509/77/1/

In fact, under SAP, every second ad states 'CV' with little mention of 'résumé'.

No one is saying you don't know your job Dean. You asked a simple question, which was "who uses the word "resume" these days anyway". Well the answer seems to be that the majority of people in Aus do except for you and your colleagues

If the employment industry predominantly use the term 'CV' (employers/recruiters) then I would say that is the majority. Besides, the majority of people (ie jobseekers) don't even know how to construct a properly written and presented CV/résumé let alone know the difference between the two.

Anyway, in practice it really doesn't matter if you place the words 'Curriculum Vitae' or 'résumé' on the top of your CV/résumé. At the end of the day it all amounts to the same thing and a prospective employer is not going to discredit a person for using either.

Its soooo scary isn't it?
I loved my job in the UK too, great staff and brilliant boss. I have found the same here which i really didn't believe could happen.
All go now for you, try and take a breath and remember why you are doing this and that you will be reunited with your hubby soon.
Take care and take deeeep breaths
