Yeah but I don't agree with that. If they are clean and are as good enough to qualify, then it makes a great race for the spectator. The competitors lining up along side them should accept that they are testing themselves against the actual best. I don't agree with cheating but beating Gatlin would surely be sweet if you were racing against him.

That's just like saying if someone isn't robbing a bank at the time then that's fine; they're not a bank robber when they've done it twice in the past. We probably have a different view of sport; for me 2 strikes maximum and you're out for cheats. I would rather see Bolt race against athletes who have never been convicted of cheating.

Well no that can't be the same thing. If you believe most people in the Olympics are drug cheats then Gatlin must be among his peers then? Who's to say Bolt won't be found guilty of it sometime soon? I believe that the suspicion of how much PED use is in sport s s bit over blown. Maybe I'm being naive but it's definitely more fun to think of it as actually competitive than a bunch of cheats pretending to be better than what they are.
As Phelps said about the Russian swimmer (by extension Gatlin) - Michael Phelps traded on swimming invincibility to assert moral authority, also diplomatic immunity. Contemplating the appearance of Russia's Yulia Efimova in the womens 100 metres breast-stroke final, he said: "I believe sports should be clean. It should be on a level playing field. To have somebody test positive not just once but twice ... and still have the opportunity to swim at these Games, it breaks my heart." |

When it was announced the sport would be part of the Olympics in Brazil, Australia began scouring the nation to find the best available talent — from any background — that would give them the best chance of finishing atop the podium in 2016. So any country, rugby playing or not, could have done exactly the same. |
