Default Old Pink UK drivers licence question

In QLD can I take the old pink UK licence in to get an OZ licence without the rigmorol of sitting tests etc. ? Have not lived in UK for a while so missed the roll out of the new credit card style and cannot do it online as you have to be resident in UK to do so according to DVLC website.

I thought you only got the new style licences if you needed a new licence in the UK (e.g. on house change). I didn't think they rolled them out to everyone. If that is still true then there's no reason why they shouldn't accept the older licence.

Yes you can, there's no written test now for U.K drivers licence holders in QLD. We have since replaced the U.K pink licences with U.K photo card ones, it's free if you use a change of address i.e our postal address in the U.K is the inlaws address

Yep, if you have the new type you have to keep renewing it, the pink one lasts until you're an old codger. Keep it pink !

They still are, even if you have upgraded to the plastic photo licence you still have a paper back up in the form of the D740 Counterpart [the form that comes with the new plastic licence]. Mine expires the day before I'm 70.
You only need to renew the plastic card to change your photo

I would exchange it quick Shirl. Legally you must tell the DVLA of any change of address for your UK licence to still be valid, even if it is the old paper licence.

Fortunately you won't be asked here in Oz at Queensland Transport where you lived previously, they should exchange it.

Alternatively

Moving to another country
If you move to another country, you should check with the driving licence authorities there for information about driving and exchange of licences. You don't need to notify DVLA of a change of address when moving to live abroad.
Driving in other countries on a GB licence

Which is the same in the UK. I exchanged my S.A. licence for a UK one and didn't get my S.A. one back. They sent it back to S.A.

There is a way around having to hand over your licence. You can apply for a replacement licence due to yours being lost/stolen that way you have a nice shiny new licence that you can keep in your safe or grab bag. I lost my U.K licence & applied for a replacement one just before we left, when we arrived here & unpacked our boxes it turned up in a pair of jeans.
I know quite a few yachties that have a multitude of foreign licences.

I have a SAfrican one and a UK one so going for a straight flush with an OZ one lol.Never had to hand in my UK one when I got my SA one 18 years ago so maybe it is a newer ruling.DVLA know that I live abroad, well they still think I am in S.Africa anyhow. As far as the age of expiry goes,it is 70 on mine it's so old the 0 looks like a 6.
