Re: The Official Loners Thread
I have paid mortgages, rented, had savings and spent them and saved again, have had high and low wages - and these situations have had no bearing on how "happy" (for wont of a better word) I have felt at the time.
People are much more likely to rent long term in Oz I believe. Maybe it depends on how you (or the culture find yourself surrounded by) view owning property - personally, it holds no particular attraction. |

Although I don't dispute some folk geniuinly find it more expensive, I think the 'expensive' type threads aren't necessarily giving a balanced view (as those more vocal are the ones who've found it more). I reckon a lot is caused by people not doing like for like comparisons, e.g. comparing a small town in the UK to Sydney or Melbourne (when they aren't like for like, e.g. London and Sydney). In my mind its not like things should be a surprise in terms of cash when you get here, as you can do so much research on the web.
Definitely worth checking out the career sites for salary expectations, rental and property purchase prices, general living expenses, car prices, healthcare, etc before making a decision. What you can't check out over the web, you should be able to on a hol before moving. |

Scary but exciting - I know what you mean; one big adventure! :) p.s. if you enjoy the occassional glass of wine, the barossa valley north of adelaide is great (particularly for shiraz)! :D |

Hi Ann, I'm in Sydney. I've been on a business sponsorship visa and just applied for PR as I'm keen to get things sorted for the long term.

I'm just waiting, waiting, waiting:( for a CO. I have meds booked for week after next. Hopefully, if I get them in quick, there will be nothing for a CO to do, but hand application to a decision maker:thumbsup: |

Mothers Day - I have to set a reminder in the calendar for it, as for some weird reason its in May over here (which doesn't mean much to a mum in the uk)???
Now your folks are back are you going to break the news? The time i send my TRA form back in it will be pushing may at the most i reckon. If i get a postive result from the TRA then i will tell them. I will only tell them once i know the final outcome of the TRA. So thats xmas/new year, there holiday, dads b'day and mums i have waited to get past till i tell them. Not feeling good about the TRA but to be honest i dont think i ever will  |
Re: The Official Loners Thread
Just read that post and dont make sense.
Once i submit my TRA application and get the result it will be near the end of april i think. |
Re: The Official Loners Thread
Hey guys. Hope you all had a fab weekend. I've just got back from doing Mothers day visits ( x 2 as have a step mum as well). Been plagued all weekend by texts from my sister and friends in Thirroul telling me what I am missing.:frown: If only we could wave a magic wand.
Check out the band they watched on Friday night - my mate Pav just started playing drums for them - www.myspace.com/bigerle  |
