People should be able to hear about all sides of the story of moving to Australia. Why do they only need to hear the boring old ''I moved to Brisbane and love it here'' version over and over again? That might give them encouragement but is encouragement all they need? People need to be made aware that it is possible to make a move overseas and really not like it at all. People need to look into the future and have the facility to consider as many different eventualities as possible. We are not talking about which breed of puppy to buy here; we are discussing the country in which people are going to live their lives.

Yes, but on this post at least, you were not offering anything constructive, all you were seeking to do was piss on the chips of the original poster, who is obviously very excited about their move.
Like I said advice good and bad is what this forum is all about, but do you really believe that constant negative posts are going to be helpful? indeed if all you ever post is how crap the place is, do you think people will take anything you say seriously, even when you are making salient points.

Surely the implication there is that no one could possibly hold genuine views against Australia, so they must be fabricating them as part of their desire to be a ''troll''.

Tough if you can't understand why someone wouldn't like Australia. That's your problem. Doesn't make someone who dislikes the place a ''troll''.

Lazy, cheap and all too convenient way of trying to invite the mods to shut someone down just because they are expressing views you happen not to like/agree with.

Calling someone a ''troll'' is the internet forum equivalent of a school kid saying ''my Dad's bigger than your Dad'' or ''he started it''.

Pathetic.

Its isnt a 'What is Perth / Australia like?' thread.

Its a 'We're very excited' thread.

The difference is... at a friends surprise birthday party are you the person that shouts 'SURPRISE, CONGRATULATIONS' with everyone else.... or are you the person that pipes up 'Stop celebrating - you're another year nearer death!'

:)

Do you say to someone who has just announced that they are expecting a baby "I can't believe I'm hearing this" or do you say something positive and congratulatory?

Maybe a Mod could clarify whether my take on this situation is in line with BE policy or not?

There is room for negative comments about OZ but not in this thread, if the title of the thread was " Should we move to Australia" then negative comments would be OK, but as the title is ' we are moving to Australia" negative comments are just a waste of time and serve no purpose other then to wind people up.

Aah, but the big problem with all of this arrogant nonsense you put forward is that people only bother to refer to the ''rules'' when someone who is anti-Australia ''breaks'' them.

If someone like Hutch or Renth, who are both clearly in favour of Australia to put it mildly, said something like ''I can't believe I'm reading it'' (and I can think of plenty of times they have said things very similar to this with the sole intention of mocking someone's negative view of Australia) no one seems to care and the word ''troll'' is certainly never mentioned.

Too complicated for you to grasp though I expect.

Hutch and Renth and many others like them FREQUENTLY post remarks with the SOLE purpose of mocking the views of others/provoking them.

Why is this not termed ''trolling''?

I can tell you why.

Because they come at it from a pro-Australia standpoint, which people find acceptable.

That is the ONLY difference.

So apply the same rules to all or shut the hell up with your pathetic, childish and predictable cries of ''troll''.

It is a shame a "congratulations " thread has turned into this.

Yeah well Keith until some of your buddies learn to drop their girly shrieks of ''ooh, tell the nasty troll off, miss'' then what do you expect?

I have a totally fair point here. The justification for calling someone like me a troll is that, apparently, I make provocative posts.

How is this different from Hutch or Renth? Answer: it isn't.

Why would you make negative comments on this thread about someone moving to OZ unless you were being a troll, the person seemed happy about moving to OZ and wanted to share it with the forum and you seemed to want to ruin it for them. Not everyone who immigrants to OZ ends up hating it most like the place.

It should have been taken to PM in order not to spoil the thread. Also your initial comment which started it was uncalled for on such a thread....

For the same reason (presumably) that Hutch and Renth 'pop up' with their little remarks mid-thread. Humour. Irony. Sarcasm.

You tolerate it from them so learn to tolerate it from everyone.

Just because someone does not approach the topic from a perspective that you agree with does not mean they should be labelled a ''troll'' or indeed anything else.

Err, but yet again, many of Hutch's remarks are ''uncalled for''.

But they do not bother you. Wonder why.

One day - if I ever get to go home - I might post an ''excited'', ''happy'' thread about doing so.

Won't stop people like Hutch and Renth taking the piss in their usual way, will it?

Again, you just can't grasp this, can you?

No they don't.

People are not bothered to ANYTHING LIKE THE SAME EXTENT by sarcasm directed at the expense of the UK and those that love it.
