I find the concept pushed by some ultra conservatives in the States that because Obama, like everyone else, reads off a teleprompter that this significantly diminishes his understanding of what he says, or his delivery of it, to be grasping at straws and totally biased almost beyond redemption.

Any impartial observer can see the man understands what he is saying, how he is saying it and the substance behind it.

After Bush we all know why they are grasping at those straws.

Not everyone can do that though, it is really really hard to do well. He made a few mistakes in this speech but I still find him amazing to watch.

Yeah, he forgot to mention than OBL died in 2002 and has just been wheeled out of the freezer in time for the election campaign.

Why wouldn't Dubya have taken the credit then, just before the last election? Do McCain a big favour.

I guess they wanted Obama to inherit the GFC, right?

Really...luckily most people make up their own minds and don't listen to the extremists of either persuasion who will say anything to denigrate politicians to push their own political view. IMO this extremism is a cancer in US politics and I sincerely hope it doesn't happen here or in the UK.

They lie constantly to their people and to the world, regardless of political party. They are proven liars, time and time again.

Why should this event be any different?

They lie where practical, possible and within their own moral limits. There is no way this meets all those tests.

So what, you think Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney etc might just tell someone if he'd been dead for 9 years...no way!

Just as the Gulf of Tonkin was a proven to be a false flag operation, just like they knew there were no WMDs in Iraq, this is turn will be proved to be another huge lie to the people of America and the world.

Goebbels would have been proud.

I dont agree.

Whatever agenda the US policy has going on this one was all about avenging 9/11 and getting the number one scalp. if they had done that years ago theyd have happily communicated it.

Bottom line is, no one on this forum or the million others knows, its all just opinion.

IMO they caught him this week, Obama did a good speech and probably made a lot of Americans feel good today, so good on him.
