It was quite a noticeable difference from last time - the press which did slate the Aussies last time, but I'm talking about the difference among people's reactions. I work in the same place as when England took the Ashes, and then there was a complete lack of interest once it became clear England were on top. Noone would talk cricket, no radios, no internet follwing it. This time nearly every senior manager brought a TV in and stuck it in their office, internet screens showed the progress, radios were on by people's desks, and at the conclusion yesterday the Reception area (which has a good TV) was full of people either watching or wandering in every so often to check the progress of the game. People kept trying to take the mickey out of me (and failing when they realised I wasn't supporting England) - totally different to last time when the word "cricket" wasn't heard for weeks.

This also probably explains why we've had different experiences. I work from home, so I tend to mix with Aussies more in the evening rather than the day.

Hi Polly, thinking about this a bit more. The main reason for not bringing out the TV/radios last time (and following it on the internet/checking progress) would be because during the last Ashes they would not have been playing during QLD office hours. (assuming 6pm QLD time would be 9am UK at that time of the year).
This also probably explains why we've had different experiences. I work from home, so I tend to mix with Aussies more in the evening rather than the day.

So why was no-one interested in reading the reports in the paper? Its the only time I got to see the paper cos no-one else was interested! Why did no-one come into work having watched it? We had re-runs on Sky in the main office, and no-one wanted to watch! I remember a series played in Aus, when I worked in England and those of us that couldn't get time off had serious trouble staying awake cos we'd been up all night - and the English team were losing.........
Trust me, the guys that professed at that time to have no knowledge or even a faint interest in cricket were glued to their TVs and spouting off like they knew more than the Test Match Special team.
The only person I've seen with less interest in cricket than the guys at work in 2005, is The Bloke, who now says cricketers are all overpaid wasters and should be made to work for a living

In 2005 I was watching the Ashes with Aussies (and others), IN THE EVENING, which is when I tend to mix with other people because I WORK FROM HOME.
The clues are there if you look

Mixed with the locals in the evening,
they would have been in bed by 8PM.Cheers

So Vaughan is back in for the One Dayers as Captain. I think that is a good move even though he will be rusty with the bat, his Captaincy is much better that Freddies. Some of the field placements over the Ashes were disgraceful.
Now just need some consistant bowlers.

Obviously you will have problems getting the right message from the following - but the facts are that I watched more of the 2005 Ashes live than the 2006/7 Ashes because the former was shown in the evening while the latter was shown in the day. This is obviously at odds with the assumption that you made based on nothing but your own fantasy.

I was thinking about Polly's situation and why her experience was different to mine. The clues are there if you look - but it's now obvious that we are using incompatible versions of English and you are desperately trying to save face. Your cross breeding of selective quotes to support your erroneous assumptions is risible.

Cross breeding of selective quotes would mean I have taken parts of quote 1 and mixed them in with quote 2 or vice versa. Now I don't think I have done that have I?
