Nope. You just use this an excuse to further you own self interests in the Labor party and I'll tell you why? You cannot save jobs when the external investment is no longer there? You can only create and create they did.

Are Hockey’s job numbers correct? > Check the facts

When faced by jobs in trouble, you can do one of three things:
  1. Unconditionally support them
  2. Look to revitalise, renew and reinvest
  3. Allow the jobs to die.
Hockey and co have been doing 3, but in many circumstances 2 would be a much better bet (even in the car industry, which is about to go through a revolution, thus everything is in the air). That's before you get to the public sector jobs that have been purposely canned by Hockey.

They have created nothing.

Thanks for posting that link. I think it categorically demonstrates an achievement of Abbott and Hockey, as much as the lefty tone tries to massage it otherwise. The figures don't lie. Abbott and Hockey did a good job on the job creation front compared to their predecessors under very tough resource sector related circumstances. The figures are all there. Thanks again

It demonstrated they have done roughly as well as Labor ....... who had to deal with a global financial meltdown.

This is obviously some other definition of the word 'good' of which I was not previously aware.

Not really.

Claim 1

The ABS shows that since the beginning of the year (January 2015 to July 2015), 162,900 jobs have been created which is an average of 23,300 jobs per month. So the Treasurer is correct.

Claim 2

The ABS shows that in Labor’s last year of office (September 2012 to August 2013) employment grew by 106,500 which is an average of 8,900 jobs per month. So the Treasurer’s claim that the average was 3,600 is wrong.

A small portion of Labors time may have coincided with a global recession. That recession which largely ignored Australia because of its mining boom. But really, from 2010 - 2013 Australia was booming. Some could say it was booming during the global recession due to mining.

From 2013 onwards China's slow down has hit Australia pretty hard and the economy has had to shift. That shift has been not been as quick as we would like.

Those numbers are a pretty damning indicator on the performance of the previous Labor party or a really complimentary indicator on the Liberal party. You make the choice.

Sigh.

Really, why do you try it on? You know I've got the evidence, I've already presented it before.

Labor had to contend with significant employment effects as a result of the GFC, yet they kept the economy running. The coalition have just had a bunch of unforced errors, coupled with a lack of attention to job creation.

Sigh - what did I say in my last post - From 2010 - 2013 Australia was booming.. Can you categorically, hand on heart, tell me it wasn't?

All this graph does is to prove what a balls up Labor made of it from 2011 to 2013 when they handed an upward trajectory of unemployment onto the Libs.

And as the mining boom tapers off not much you can do about falling jobs in that sector and its relatives, but hats off to them for creating them.

I really don't think we need to go in this circle any more. Labor are a balls up - its that simple

I'd have preferred an Abbot government with a majority in the senate so that he could have implemented a hard-right agenda, but it wasn't to be. A coalition under Turnbull will do instead. He has already moved to the right on 2 key issues - climate change and gay marriage, so I am happy with that

Man made global warming is not happening - it's a socialist plot to destroy the economic prosperity of the west - so I'm cool that we're doing little. Our great ally in the northern hemisphere, Canada is also not doing much - great minds think alike. Thank f**k we don't have an ETS which is a taxpayer subsidy for socialist nonsense. If anyone thinks they can make money from clean energy then party on, but they must receive not one cent of taxpayer money (solar is on the cusp of this anyway). The only energy source that should receive our dollars is nuclear

On gay marriage, ideally we would have kept the current setup forever, but a vote on the issue - albeit an expensive exercise - will suffice. I personally think it will be a no but can live with a yes

Turnbull is hugely popular with voters and he's moved to the right - happy days. If Shorten, his union bosses and his other socialist, Australia-hating mates are not worried by this then they should be

You do it all by yourself.

Just for the record, ignorance is claiming Abbott had a good record and then denying the evidence which shows he didn't - growth down, budget deficit up, job figures not too flash etc. He was voted into power on a promise to stimulate growth and jobs and reduce the budget deficit. Now without resorting to calling me ignorant or bringing up the irrelevance of the record of previous administration, defend the indefensible with hard evidence rather than opinions or sound bites like he had a good record.

I agree with most of the above. Accepting Turnbull as leader is the wise thing to do. At this moment in time only he is capable of defeating Labor in the next elections. Bill Shorten in the lodge would have been disastrous.

It will be interesting to see what happens once the honeymoon period for Turnbull is over and that will happen before an election is due. I see Turnbull was praising Abbott as a 'great Australian' (was that as he pulled the knife out of his back?).

Yes - Shorten is the CFMEU's bitch. Having him as PM would be effectively handing the job to Joe McDonald and co
