Can't remember the figures, but its something like twice as much gambled when compared to the UK, that's not per capita, that's in total, so 6 to 7 times per capita (although don't quote me on it).

Gambling is a massive problem in Australia. Unfortunately, it's also a golden goose with the status of a sacred cow (pardon my mixed metaphors). 
No government will ever get serious about it; they'll only tinker at the edges and squeeze out a few crocodile tears for the sake of popular opinion.
