Second hand rideons seem to retain some value.
Pay 1000 for one that is working and well serviced.
Pay several hundred for one that needs attention or is an old style.
Around here people observe a 10am rule...however...I was out with a blower on my roof at 9am:
due to the hot days...and the fact my neighbours had a loud party to 2am....
they haven't had one for about 5 years!!! (It's OK - it's not personal!)
I like the sounds of mowers and blowers - often a sound far away. Never bothers me.

Mowing the lawn on a Sunday!
My problem is not lawn mowers...I can hack that, it is dogs barking, with one in particular that seems to bark at all times of the day...............once in the early summer at 0430 am and continue until late evening.
Complained to the Council who were powerless to do anything as I could not give a precise address of the culprit as the house is located in a gated community and I have no access.
Plus of course, once one starts............
Not sure how the other neighbours put up with it though..........

Re: Mowing the lawn on a Sunday!
On Christmas day a few years ago we had a few mates staying & we were having breakfast on the verandah. Our neighbour started mowing FFS it was 6.30am Christmas morning.
It's normal to wake to the dulcit tones of ride-on mowers & chainsaws any time after 6am around these parts. Especially after the recent storms.
I just bought a nice shiny new John Deere. It's cut my mowing time from 4 hrs to just under 2. I cut the vacant block to the side of us as well, just the first few metres from the road to keep it looking nice. This one has decent lights on the front so I tend to cut in the evening when it's cooler.
If your keen to use a ride on you can come & mow mine any time you want lol keys in the mower.

Thanks, I may decide to take you up on that some time.

Maybe because it was a bit cooler that time of day?
Personally I believe the same etiquette for phone calls should be applied to lawn mowing. It's the 10/10 rule. Never phone before 10 am or after 10pm

If there is any early morning noise here we sleep though it
10/10??? Locals round here get up at first light (5am or so now) and go to bed about 8 or 9 pm. Really. This does not coincide with our personal time keeping.
We have 2 ride-on mowers. One little 36 inch with collectors for doing the actual garden lawns and one big Toro Titan 54 inch zero-turn for all the rough grass in the orchard. It takes two afternoons to mow the lot so we were lucky dodging the rain yesterday and today.

That made me chuckle!
I've had a self-propelled mower for a few months now. It's great, but I wish the d*mn thing would go a bit faster.

Re: Mowing the lawn on a Sunday!
Some of the regulations are so laughable. BCC has a bylaw that a tradesman is not allowed to perform work at his trade on a Sunday/public holiday too. I know of one chippy that was fined by council for working in his own garage with a lathe on a Sunday after a complaint by a neighbour. He told me the only reason they fined him was that he had his work van parked outside in the driveway.....
