I wouldn't, but in a very ironic way, I appreciate how honest you're being admitting to keeping it. If you see what I mean.

Did you say it was wrapped up in a receipt ? if it was it would have the time etc & the name of the person who was on the till. Dont know if it would be any help in tracing them, but just a thought !

FWIW I'd handed it in - something similar happened to me with a purse and you can bask in the reflected glory of knowing you done right.

I honestly cant believe that you would start a thread on this to be honest, you know, judging from the reaction people give to those who leave the UK without paying debts and stuff!!

all I know is I lost a wallet with $200 in it at a time when I couldnt afford to lose $200 (not that any time is a good time to lose money..) and I dont know what I would have done if it hadnt been handed in! I suppose you need to put yourself in the other persons shoes..

Nice act of random kindness.
They won't starve. The OP says the money was wrapped in a reciept in a shoping trolley so that means they've already done their hopping and that's their change. Wish I got that much change when I went shopping.

Personally, I'd take it to the police, then tell the store that if anyone reports "something" they lost in the store yesterday that they should contact the police.
