I just had a look. It's in my daily multivitamin tablet, so it must be some sort of nutritional supplement.

I'm going to rue the fact I decided to use the word iron..in connection with thing me old Mam did...blah blah

I do, infact, iron, but only my shirts. I cannot bring myself to stoop to easy-iron fabrics.

Aldi have had heaps of Heinz Baked Beans English Recipe for a dollar a tin recently, bought a dozen. Not a bad stab at real baked beans, although Aussie baked beans have improved a lot over the last 20 years. When I arrived here in the 70s I couldn't believe the sour, runny slop with the almost crunchy beans that passed for baked beans in Australia.

Have we passed through Subtlety Street yet? ;)

I am generally a content puppy and I can pass on Twiglets and decent curry, just, but there is something about the British way of doing humour that I miss ...

I'm in BlightY at the moment and have satisfied my pork pie cravings, have stocked up on Walnut Whips and Ripples but......no Topics in Asda!!!! I mentioned it to someone who said they hadn't seen them in a while, have they disappeared??

Hubby is happy now he's had a couple of pints of bitter!

I did get a bit overwhelmed in M&S food hall.....so much stuff.....

However, clothes have been a big disappointment this trip. Everything looks a bit frumpy, both in style and fabric patterns and all the guy clothes in Next looks like it's catering for Brighton clientele!

I can't think of Twiglets without thinking of that Mr Bean sketch with the sticks dipped in marmite:blink:

I once bought a shirt from Next...c 1995 - in the days before the metro-sexual ironic boom hit....

and a pair of socks in 2003.

The sum total of my experience with that mob...!

I never bought Next for myself, but when DD was little it was the only place that stocked things that were slim fitting enough not to fall off her tiny frame. She had very long legs, so tescos/asda stuff would be too short if I bought the correct waist size. When she was 5, I had to put her in pinafore dresses for her school uniform, as they didn't make grey skirts small enough, and her jumper made her look like a shar-pei puppy it was so big! She wore it until she was 9. (She was only 4lbs when born full term.)

I used to wear Doc Martins in the 1970s as they were so light and comfortable, plus I was into Hill Walking etc and just about lived in them. I brought a couple of pairs with me to Queensland where they just sat for years. Eventually I sold them at a garage sale for about $5 each.

The very next year, Doc Martins literally exploded onto the scene here and were selling for about $150 a pair.

Warburtons bread and a good bakery that sells sausage rolls (pork not beef), steak pies and danish pastries/cream cakes. A good selection of yoghurts would be great..very limited choice here and $1.50 for 1...what's that all about!!!!! Miss the french set ones you could get in tesco/sainsburys, 99p for 4 and often buy 1 get 1 free. We get ripped off in Perth!!!!

I'm quite reassured by this thread. I've been abroad before and felt like I would kill for x or y but the foods that have been brought up so far I can happily live without. So time to prepare myself for a fall... How easily available /expensive are:

houmous
doritoes
tomatoes
chorizo/other dry cured meats
What are crisps like out there? They are my vice here!
Also I've heard pizza is just not up to scratch in Aus, but that the meat is lots better than the UK - would you agree?

Crisps are kak!! The potatoes are different so they just don't taste the same!
Nothing approaches the perfection of Walkers :( "Thins" are my usual ones here, they do have a little taste, also Smiths (not like the UK Smiths though).
Quite keen on Twisties, which aren't unlike Watsits, but you won't find the likes of Quavers, Hula Hoops etc except in the Irish/British shops.

You can get Doritoes, not a great fan but I know they are here.
Tomatoes are either cherry sized or huge round here, and the bigger they get the less flavour they seem to have.

Yay for doritoes! As for twisties, I've tried them before and they are okay, also had those cone shaped ones which I can't remember the name of. Oh, and burger rings. They were odd!!

Cherry tomatoes are all good! As long as they're not $10 a box ;)
