Anyways, I think there isnt a BIG difference though. So, practically its going to feel the same temperature levels everywhere. By the way, I am from Dubai-UAE, where max temperature has gone upto 50C and averages max temp per day 44C in june/july mostly
you would get a better idea by asking for the Highest minimum rather than the lowest maximum.
You will have to accept some humidity if you don't like below 20c.

Similarly with Melbourne - I think last summer's 48 degrees on Black Saturday means it holds the record for hottest temperature in Australia for a capital city.

I think Canberra has the biggest daily range of temps on average but surely the lowest max would have to be Hobart.

Have to admit, I misread the title. I guessed the altitude and lack of cloud cover would make Canberra colder than Hobart at night. I took a stab in the dark and thought Hobart might be cloudy and pissy. Probably colder overall of course.

If we are talking Jan/Feb.... then its probably going to be Darwin. Hobart usually manages to get to 38 degrees and has been 40 in the past.. Whereas the record for Darwin is circa 37 degrees.

Whats interesting about this, is the two main contenders are the most Northerly and Southerly Capitals. I'm talking temp only though not humidity...

The hottest in order in the Southern Hemp Summer Jan/Feb should be

Perth
Adelaide
Melbourne
Canberra
Sydney
Brisbane
Hobart
Darwin.

Sydney and Brisbane comes out of this really well !

Hmmm Hobart may even have one or two higher days than Brisbanes max as well.

How often does it get above 37 in Brisbane in Feb ?

Lets put it this way... It will definitely get above 36 degrees in Hobart Jan/Feb.... It may not in Brisbane or Darwin.

It's already been 38.3 in Hobart this summer

Hobart Past 5 Days

this month »

Minimum Maximum Rainfall Sat
Jan 2 12.4°C 23°C 0.2mm Fri
Jan 1 18.3°C 24.8°C 0.8mm Thu
Dec 31 16.8°C 38.3°C 0.0mm Wed
Dec 30 13.2°C 25.5°C 0.0mm Tue
Dec 29 13.0°C 24.8°C 0.0mm

So Hobart can move above Brisbane for Jan/Feb maximum at least.

Brisbane is better off for that though.

They are thankfully very few and far between. That one was Black Saturday and was 'almost' a one off. I should imagine those in the Middle East would be better people to ask.
