The Lions

Another great game of test rugby
I'm a fan of neither team but I would say that although closely matched, The Wallabies have the edge over the 2 tests
Lions good up front, both defend well but The Wallabies have something more in the backs - Folau is a livewire
Great that Australia have won to take the series into test 3

This week, the Lions clearly came out with a defensive game plan and showed no intention of trying to score tries. In the end this was their downfall and the Wallies deserved to win

I'm surprised Aus won in Melbourne. Not exactly a passionate place for rugby down here. No home crowd advantage in Melbourne for sure.
Maybe the crowd doesn't play as big a part in Rugby.... Although I'm sure it used to ? Can remember the days of the Welsh in Full voice at Twickenham.

Noticed a very large "Union" ground, facilities and clubhouse on my travels the other Day In Footscray, not been aware of it before.

OH had his party last night, and was given a t-shirt and cap (I'd already got him the scarf) so he was a happy bunny- till the final score. He is taking DD to watch the game in Sydney. Our Aussie friends were teasing him - as we will become citizens on 25th July, they were all saying he should be wearing the green and gold. BUT he is a Welshman born and bred, so he'll always support Wales.

RU is arguably an elitist sport but there is still sizeable support in NSW and QLD - and it still gets people at home in VIC watching it - the national interest is that yes it gets on to Channel 10. Loads of people in country NSW and QLD play it.

Have you both been to Etihad before and how did you like it.... Did you use the train to get there. Tip for anyone going to Etihad when it's packed, go to one of the Bars inside the ground for 45 mins after the game and you'll get Southern Cross Station and Trams or even carpark to yourself instead of having to wrestle with the crowds.
Probably should have posted that titbit yesterday
Now back to my original post on this thread, what do I say to the curious other code followers about 4 countries being allowed to play one ?.... I'm getting plenty of questions from the locals about this, and I dont know the Answer. From the locals (non union followers) point of view it's not a good look..... What I posted is what I'm copping... even though I take very slight interest in the game.
When/Why did those home countries become the British Lions ?

They've been around since the 1880s - from near the beginning of the game. Part of the fabric of rugby.
There was talk at the start of the professional era about doing away with them but the tradition continues. It's something different from the tri/six nations every 4 years
Over the years, The Lions have had mixed success but they've kept at it
