Sounds good polly ^^^^

Just thought I would let anyone interested know that the Kindle I ordered from amazon.com 4 days ago has arrived already. The Australian power pack and leather case with in-built light arrived separately yesterday and the Kindle today. As it's a gift for my mum for a major b'day I have to tread lightly with it -have just charged it up - very frustrating as I don't have one myself :(

I ordered a kindle and leather case on tuesday and it arrived today too. Fantastically fast. Its a present for someone but i'll be checking it out when they open it.

The exchange rate is too good to not buy it now, unless it drops below$100 soon which might happen.

Ordered my DX on Sunday and still waiting. Perhaps it's the extra weight? (Pun intended). :sneaky:

Mine took just 3 days to arrive from the US - very fast!

I've been really impressed with it and getting plenty of use out of it. Much easier to cart around than a thick paperback or hardback :).

Amazed how much it has dropped in price as paid around $300 for it back in May - that takes into account the more expensive price and the weaker Aus-US dollar at the time :(.

Still I've been using it daily and saved quite a few $ already on the cheaper electronic books (and not forgetting it costs nothing to send each book).

What is this power pack? Is it necessary?

I too bought one as a gift and had it sent direct to the recipient. I did not purchase a power pack tho - wondering if I have messed up?

The international edition Kindle that we get sent to Australia includes a Kindle to USB port lead to plug into your computer and charge up that way.

The optional power adapter just lets you charge it from a normal Aussie power point which is more convenient for some and faster I would guess. I wouldn't think it is a big deal when giving as a present - I just thought my mum might prefer to charge it wherever she wishes around the house.

The adapter I have with mine is a usb cable that plugs into a UK power-plug with a USB slo. All I need to put on the end is a UK-Aus adapter, or use the universal multi-country adapter I got a while back that also has a USB slot in it - gets used for ipod charging too - this kind of thing.....

Phew! As long as it can be charged somehow - I was having visions of having given something that could not be used at all:ohmy:

Amazon do a grey one too :) Very handy even just as an Aus-UK (and vice versa) adapter.

Still waiting for mine to be delivered!

According to the DHL tracking, it left Amazon on the 8th, the day after I ordered it and it arrived in Sydney on the 10th with delivery within two days.....

It's now the 16th.

Ah yes, the laid-back Australia - again. :frown:

I'd be chasing that up - that took less than one day for me - sounds like the aussie dufus's have lost it or left it on your driveway and someone has run off with it. They left mine outside in the doorway even though we were home and apparently I signed for it... amazing the powers of an australian courier to a) ignore rules,b) get signatures by telepathy

perhaps their union wont let them knock on doors in case they sustain a repetitive strain injury . They are trained by ninjas to leave parcels without anyone seeing (even though my office window is right by my front door and I sit there for 8hrs a day on conference calls )

Yes, I'm on the phone tomorrow. I will wait an hour or two after their quoted opening time so that they can finish their tea and bikkies.

Re: Kindle

Yep: another Snafu.

DHL sent it a week ago to third party deliverers in Homebush who apparently sent it back to DHL in Silverwater where it has been sitting all week.

They wanted to know if I wished to pick it up - a 200Km round trip!

So it's now going to *another* third party courier......................

Do you rate it? I really wan't one for allowing me to carry around all of my professional/work related books, without having to tow the bookshelf behind the car...

Thankoooo.

Got one a few weeks ago, wouldn't be without it now, got over 300 books ready to load on it, and have about 30 already loaded, So far the books have cost very little.. well nothing actually.. There are plenty of people who are offering, for free, all the classics that are out of copyright.. and loads of books that are not.. Love the way it remembers the page you were last reading, no need to turn down page corners or use a bookmark.
