hey hang on - team spirit and all that.. Cream were fabulous, but are now quite dated.. nothing wrong with that mind! However, I think Clapton added to the mix and made them what they were.. I find it all a bit snobby (in a musical sense) else.. praise where praise is due.. and don't even THINK about quoting riffs and all that bollox.. they were what they were and they did good.. end off.
Jeff Beck isnt very well known.. I only know of him as when I was a teen I tended to hang out with musicians etc (probably hoping to be some sort of hip chick! LOL!).. but the music was great and Jeff Beck was part of that.. The Blues Breakers... John Mayall..blah blah blahb. like I said in a previous thread, I am hitting a mid life crisis and enjoying all my youthful pleasures! and if that includes listening to Jeff Beck then so be it...
I still revel in the fact that I saw Doctor Feelgood live in concert a few good times before he died... never seen anyone play the harmonica and smoke 20 ciggies in the same breath...

I thought Cream were excellent too. My criticism wasn't of Cream, moreso of Clapton, whose playing style is just so boring to me. The fact that Jack Bruce wrote one of the best ever blues/rock songs of all time with the main purpose that Hendrix would play the guitar to it only to have Clapton play it will be the biggest disappointments in music (for me)
I know you weren't critising Cream my dear BS... you feel these things a lot more than I ever would.. you being all passionate about music and me just being a mere observer!

Ah Clapton didn't do them a HUGE disservice though? aye? Alright.. he is no Hendrix (am resisting the urge to bow down at this point! LOL!) but he did alright and made Cream what they were at that time?

I just listen to the CD and then go along the lines of "The man from del monte.. he says yes!"... I am, indeed, that shallow! lol!Em x

errr.. no... it is not an euphemism! I sincerely believe that you have a lot more passion, intelligence and understanding of what is a good, decent musican than I ever would hope to have

Bollocks! At the end of the day, that is the beauty of tastes, there are no right or wrongs when it comes to tastes it is purely arbitrary. My quoting reasons why I think Clapton is shit over your liking for him means bugger all, regardless of what facts I throw out there. Opinions, that's what this whole place is about
Ah... he *did* add to the whole Cream era for me... but he could play out a guitar solo way too long, enough for me to want to start watching paint dry!!
