Also, try asking for compound interest on your deposit.

Really wish that I was close by to be able to help you PP. Hang in there - the world is FULL of tossers!!!

Try my well thought out strategy for survival:

Get hammered

Cancel the direct debit for the rent & tell the landlord to go swivel when he comes knocking on the door

Get your GP to sign you off with a "bad back" for the rest of Feb - they won;t know any different & it would take longer than that to get an appointment with a specialist to prove otherwise anyway (you knew the NHS would come through for ya one day )

Plan for not only a smutty movie, but the full rubber stockings & leather peephole bra routine for the hotel

Mr. PP will have a last month to remember

(You'll get there honey - hold tight, not long now )

We have a plan guys.

It is illegal for us to withold rent for a deposit and I dont know how quickly our landlord could take us to court.

We know full well he cant charge us 2 months rent to leave, Im calling the council later about that.

We know we will lose the deposit, he has NEVER given one back yet - according to his handyman.

So as our deposit is going to be witheld, that saves me the trouble of cleaning the flat I am assuming.

OUr flat hasnt been properly scrubbed in ages - boxes everywhere, stuff everywhere - you get the gist.

It is dusty as I have done very basic cleaning.

Anyway, as hes keeping the deposit, I can save my energy and not do bugger all except sew kippers in the curtains.

All the s*** that you're experiencing is just part of the plan to make sure you're ready to see the back of ole blighty. When you posted your thread about "when was the most emotional time for you" I had to really rack my brains as, like you, by the time it got to the end I was sick and tired of it all, friends being funny, petty bureacracy, wrong information etc.
It's like having a baby - you go through all that pregnancy stuff just so you'll be willing to do anything just to get the damn baby out at the end

We go first week in March.

I have never felt so stressed ever in my life.

Why do people have to be difficult? How the hell can my landlord demand 2 months notice AND keep our deposit when our agreement expired 9 1/2 years ago and it states only 1 months notice.

My head is pounding, the estate agents and the landlord are coming tomorrow, the landlord left a shitty message on my husbands mobile.

Ive been signed off for a week and work are being shitty as well.

Why dont people leave me alone? I dont bother anyone, just do my thing and you would think I had committed murder the way people are carrying on.

trust me i am a landlord and he cant demand 2 months notice it is stat 1 months notice within tenantcy agreement and if you are that far out of your agreement and no one has renewd it it goes to what is called a mutual rolling agrement and is coverd by tenency laws and regs (cant rember th date that ame in but check google )
so tell him to go eat his hat and demand your deposit bck if the property is in same condition you got it or like to like (doesnt matter if its been decorated and agreed with land lord )its illegal to hold deposit

other thing you can do is just dont pay him any rent fromnow till you go that way you getting your deposit back claim squatters rites he cant enter your roperty with out permision and it will take him 2 months to evict you legally

hope this calms you a bit

chill bro you going to aus man you gonna live the life

I am watching Wanted Down Under and getting really cross at the teenage girl who is hell bent on her family not moving.

I know its not her fault, but I am getting cross.

Thank you so much for that

The flat has got wear and tear.

He has never maintained it, we have replaced stuff due to damp and mould and he has always sent his handyman in to paint over the damp till it comes back, so wallpaper has peeled off - but that is not our fault.

The oven has been broken since we moved in and the gas fitter has reported it but landlord said its fine.

I will admit to the carpets being fluffed up by my previous cat but I dont know what counts as wear and tear.

We do have terrible damp though but no evidence in writing that its been reported.

I cant wait till its over.

Ive heard its illegal for us to hold rent as a deposit, god Im so confused.

Hugs sent PP. Keep strong you are nearly there. It was my last day at work yesterday and 99% of the staff were so nice and we had loads of cakes. However one member of staff who hates me did not even say goodbye or have any cake. I made sure I smiled at her when I walked out for the last time and thought to myself you sad women good luck with your bitter little life. It is such a nice feeling knowing that you will never have to work with that person again. Take care and good luck

You'll be fine - come on, you can do this

Agree entirely with the other posters re the rent. We're in rented & have checked our tenancy agreement - according to our Agent it's a common agreement used in all rentals in the UK. It is one month's notice, end of. Did you sign anything to the contrary can you remember? If not, you don't pay any more rent as of now. Cancel your direct debit if you have one, the chances are he won't notice until you're well gone If he does come round, fob him off... the cat got stuck up a tree, your begonia died..... I'm sure you can come up with something original

Stop stressing & tell me....those kippers, are they smoked or unsmoked
