Recently they've lifted over 200million out of abject poverty...may not be good enough for YOUR high standard but I call that progress. India was the begging bowl of the world in the 60's (Soon after colonisation) so i dont think they need patronising right wingers like yourself giving them advice. I would rank some of the other "soft" infrastructures higher then democracy, but i get what you mean.

I would also add that Britain gained enormously in the same "soft" infrastructures - much of what we think of as British were actually copied from or derived from India or the indian period. The Civil Service, for instance, has its real heritage in the ICS. The India connection had a HUGE impact upon the UK, its structure and social thinking.

I still think the Uk left India in a much better position than it found it.
