An issue to ponder upon....

Space & Arms programs are a must ...will generate revenue in the future. Since they got into the 'arms' game, the US attitude to india changed dramatically. Makes me laugh when people on this forum rant on about it given the benefits they've enjoyed directly linked to the arms industry in the uk.
Im rally not sure how you can justify a space program or an arms race when so many Indians life in abject poverty and so much needs doing.
Perhaps we should offer doses on common sense instead of money.... (which is exactly what i was advocating in this thread).

You may not like to hear it given your superiority complex, but they are working on eradicating poverty and I reckon quite sucessfully.

If were getting to the basics, then NO they didnt pay for it.... moot point but it can be argued colonisation for 200 + years of every part of the world & plundering paid for it.... UK has progressively got poorer after the colonies ended. Benefits of plundering lasts a few generations.

By paying for the basic infrastructure that india should be paying for itself, it is allowing India to waste money on space and arms projects - things that it simply cannot afford to be doing...

You cannot compartmentalise the budget for your argument..Also the aid in overall terms would be worth a peanut or two given the size of indias growing budget. And govermental aid as ive argued is rearly aid...its strings.

Its simple: India is squandering money on "show" and not spending it on its needy - and even worse, expecting others to pick up the slack.
India doesn't need a man in space, it needs to feed and educate its children.

What is clearly britain's legacy in india is the democratic heritage left behind which has left the country richer. Leads to slower economic progress but worth it.
